Footballrumormill.com is reporting that Clemson co-defensive coordinator Charlie Harbison has withdrawn his name from consideration for the vacant defensive coordinator’s job at Florida.
Harbison is considered one of the Tigers’ best recruiters and a key member of the coaching staff.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney told the Charleston Post & Courier that Florida officials had contacted him Wednesday to inform him of their interest in Harbison. Harbison apparently has decided not to pursue the job in Gainesville.
With Harbison out of the mix, the guy who appears to be emerging as the leading candidate is Arizona Cardinals secondary coach Teryl Austin. It has been reported that Austin interviewed for the job Wednesday in Gainesville.
UF could have an announcement at any time now.
