With Thursday’s big game now only a few days away, there is still no fan presence ” yet. Maybe it’s because south Florida is so expansive, so populated. Whatever it is, the fans have been no factor.
But even without them, there has been lots of atmosphere (and smack talk) generated by these two teams with the banter that has gone back and forth all week during the press conferences.
These are two teams that are very confident of victory, confident they will go out and prove some doubters wrong Thursday night at Dolphin Stadium.
The Sooners are saying the Gators (and the nation) will be stunned to find out just how good their defense can be. Linebacker Travis Lewis said at Media Day on Monday that the goal was to try and pitch a shutout. And the Sooners seem confident that the Gators have not seen an offense anything like theirs, and that OU is going to go up and down the field against UF’s defense.
The Gators, of course, think their defense is the best the Sooners have seen and UF will be able to slow down OU enough to win the game. And UF’s players aren’t showing much respect for a much-maligned OU defense. At Media Day, middle linebacker Brandon Spikes took off the gloves and called the defenses in the Big 12 “a joke.” Spikes said he doesn’t see how the Sooners can stop Tim Tebow and the UF offense.
It hasn’t been very festive down here yet, but a lot of fun. The pregame jabs have heightened the hype and the anticipation for this national title game. It’s been an entertaining week ” and it should be a very entertaining game.
