Florida’s 2018 class and coach Jim McElwain landed a verbal commitment Monday from a junior college prospect who previously committed to the Gators in high school.
After spending the weekend watching UF’s mini-camp, Deontai Williams, a 6-foot, 178-pound safety by way of Jones County J.C. in Ellisville, Mississippi, announced on his Twitter account his verbal commitment to the Gators.
Williams committed to former UF coach Will Muschamp in 2015, yet he eventually flipped his commitment to Georgia and then Ohio University before failing to qualify academically. A former Trinity Christian Academy product, Williams played sparingly last season while rehabbing from an ACL injury.
With Williams’ commitment, which is non-binding until he signs a letter of intent, the Gators have nine commits in the 2018 class.
