Florida’s 2018 class landed a verbal commitment Thursday from one of the nation’s top defensive back prospects.

Amari Burney, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound safety out of Calvary Christian High in Clearwater, announced his intention to sign with the Gators.

A four-star prospect and the No. 11 safety in the 2018 class by 247Sports, Burney committed to Florida over offers from Virginia Tech and Ohio State.

I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity,” Burney said. “With that being said, I will be committing to the University of Florida.”

Gators coach Jim McElwain confirmed Burney’s commitment on Twitter.

With Burney’s commitment, which is non-binding until he signs a letter of intent, the Gators have seven commits in the 2018 class.
