Florida’s 2018 class landed a verbal commitment Thursday from one of the nation’s top defensive back prospects.
Amari Burney, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound safety out of Calvary Christian High in Clearwater, announced his intention to sign with the Gators.
A four-star prospect and the No. 11 safety in the 2018 class by 247Sports, Burney committed to Florida over offers from Virginia Tech and Ohio State.
“I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity,” Burney said. “With that being said, I will be committing to the University of Florida.”

With Burney’s commitment, which is non-binding until he signs a letter of intent, the Gators have seven commits in the 2018 class.
