Florida’s 32-0 win over North Texas was a mixed bag of results. Along with arguably one of the most dominant defensive performances in Florida history, the Gators could be without quarterback Luke Del Rio for the foreseeable future.
But aside from the contest, Florida’s staff had the opportunity to meet with highly talented recruits visiting Gainesville on Saturday.
Among them is 2019 Saint Simons Island (Ga.) wide receiver Jashawn Sheffield.

The rising 6-foot-2 prospect has already received scholarship offers from the likes of Clemson, Florida State and the Gators despite being just a sophomore.
Following the game, Sheffield discussed witnessing his first Gators game in person.
After visiting Gainesville in late July, Sheffield received a scholarship offer from the Gators. But Saturday’s contest was Sheffield’s first game, and he left impressed.
“That game was fun. The stadium was loud and pretty good,” Sheffield said. “I liked the way they spread the ball around and threw it vertical.”

Seeing the Gators get the freshmen involved in the offense left Sheffield impressed, and he got the sense that the coaching staff wants him to be a Gator.
“The coaches just want me at UF, me and my teammate Jaylin (Simpson, who received a scholarship offer from UF on Saturday),” Sheffield said. “They want me to come back and visit. Hopefully I’ll be back for the LSU game.”

Sheffield said it meant a lot to be there and see Simpson pick up an offer from the Gators. Because when it comes to his recruitment, Sheffield wants his college destination to feel like home.
“A supportive staff that’s an extension of my family,” Sheffield said when asked what he values most in his recruitment, adding he quickly warmed to Florida’s coaches. “I like both (Coach McElwain and Coach Kerry Dixon) a lot. I got to talk to coach Mac in the coach’s locker room and I got to talk to coach Dixon a lot too.”
While he’s awhile off from making a list or even considering where he’ll end up taking his official visits, Sheffield will continue to explore his options. But it’s encouraging for Gators fans and the staff that he’s already thinking of returning to Gainesville.
