The Florida Gators have yet to land an elite high school recruit for 2016, but they have one from the junior college ranks.
Mark Thompson, who committed to UF this week, has been ranked the nation’s No. 1 JUCO running back by 247Sports.
The recruiting service evaluated him following his Florida pledge and rated him a four-star prospect with a 93 grade.
According to 247Sports, which currently ranks the Gators’ class 16th nationally, Thompson is now UF’s highest rated commitment, surpassing prep cornerback Chauncey Gardner.
Here is the scouting report on Thompson from Barton Simmons, the director of scouting for 247Sports.
“Despite limited carries during his redshirt freshman campaign at Dodge City Community College, Thompson put together some outstanding film. His spring film follows up on that effort and we think he’s going to be a breakout star as a sophomore in the junior college ranks and come to Gainesville with a chance to be an instant impact player. Thompson is listed at 6-2, 230 pounds so he has the size to be a North-South back but also has outstanding feet and elite speed. As a high schooler, Thompson ran in the 10.7 range in the 100 meters and went well under 22 seconds in the 200 meters.”
