ESPN released its player rankings Thursday for the top 300 recruits of the 2016 cycle.
Two of Florida’s eight verbal commitments made the list. Defensive back Chauncey Gardner, a Rivals100 member, is ranked 277th nationally by ESPN and linebacker Vosean Joseph comes in at No. 284.
Two more UF pledges, wide receivers Isaiah Johnson and Rick Wells, are also rated four-star prospects. Conversely, Rivals, Scout and 247Sports each have just one future Gator (Gardner) with a four-star rating.
However, Florida may be in jeopardy of not landing an ESPN five-star recruit for the first time. The Gators have done so every year since ESPN started its rankings in 2006, but at this time five-star defensive end Shavar Manuel appears to be the only realistic option. He visited UF earlier this month.
Outside of Manuel, some of Florida’s other top targets include CB Trayvon Mullen (No. 18), QB Dwayne Haskins (No. 25), OT Jauan Williams (No. 60), Auburn WR commit Nate Craig-Myers (No. 68), Miami WR commit Sam Bruce (No. 74) and WR Josh Hammond (No. 85).
