Visitors for OB Debut

Florida has hosted several recruits over the course of spring football, and Saturday will be no different.

More than a dozen 2016 prospects are scheduled to attend the Orange & Blue Debut in The Swamp.

The biggest names are at wide receiver, as Miami commit Sam Bruce, Josh Hammond and Josh Imatorbhebhe will visit.

They’re top targets at the position and have UF ties. Hammond is the younger brother of former Florida WR Frankie Hammond, Imatorbhebhe is the younger brother of freshman tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe, and Bruce was high school teammates with running back signee Jordan Scarlett.

Offensive lineman Marcus Tatum (Daytona Beach Mainland) is taking his third trip to UF this spring, defensive end Jordan Woods (Ocala Trinity Catholic) will make his second visit in the past week and tight end Jacob Mathis (Tampa Berkeley Prep) is coming to meet the new staff for the first time.

All six aforementioned recruits have Florida at or near the top of their leaderboards.

Five of UF’s seven commits will be attendance for the spring game — DE JaQuan Bailey, CB Chauncey Gardner, WR Isaiah Johnson, LB Vosean Joseph and ATH Tyrek Tisdale.

Two in-state prospects hoping to earn offers also plan to visit in offensive linemen Stone Forsythe and Jawaan Taylor.

  1. How many five stars are showing interest? Our basketball signing class has more 4/5 stars. I know what coach did with a two star QB. But we need the talent base to compete for the national championship.

  2. You have to credit Jim McElwain for creating a fun kick-off to his own “Orange & Blue Debut” with an atmosphere showcasing his best available players. It’s short of the traditional spring game but entertaining to watch. His miked sideline comments to players are corny, humorous and the kind to be expected from a Dad enjoying his kids’ success. I really like this guy. Meantime, it appears imagination and a recognizable philosophy about offense have finally returned to the Florida football mindset. Hooray!

  3. Lest we all lose perspective, this new head coach is all but starting from scratch on offense this year. Doubt we’ll stay competitive long in SEC East first year unless our D can dominate and the offense does at least enough to score often in the red zone. It will help if Mark Richt continues tripping over his annual threshold to a division title. With South Carolina rebuilding we might slip in much the way Mizzou has the last two years. Our OL is too young, depleted and inexperienced for us to be a pre-season favorite in the division, though we may surprise.

  4. I’m just excited to see what our new coaches can do. I’m going in with no expectations as we have a lot to “fix” from the past two years. Our d will be stacked and fun to watch and I think the two qbs will continue to improve as long as someone can catch the ball (here’s holding out hope). Line needs some help but we recruited a bunch of studs so we shall see!

  5. Yeah, my guess is that we’ve bottomed out the last two seasons and gave plenty of defense and the right coaching now to lift the offense. We ‘ll start seeing the team improve each year and in a hurry .

  6. The SEC had 12 of 14 teams with 2015 recruiting classes ranked in the Top 22 on ESPN, the other two were in the low 40’s. With a total of 118 ESPN Top 300’s. So the ACC must really be better and/or passing up the SEC,,, right? lol! 🙂

  7. the Gators will make concessions in their recruiting this year, due to over offering. i feel that they could possibly have 7-8 impact receivers that they will not want to turn away. same with OL and LB’s. i could see as many up to 10 OL deciding to sign. i could see as many as up to 7 or 8 LB’s ( natural and converted ) wanting to sign. before you smirk , with as many offers as they are throwing around , if alot of the recruits see potential early playing time as a realistic possibility ; are the Gators really going to say NO to their positions of DIRE need. not no , but, hell no. UF will have to settle for a so – so QB recruit for 2016. 2017 they will get their superstar QB’s ( 2 of them ) . it’s just too late and they have to win again first.
