Sheriron Jones gave all he had Friday in his final high school football game with Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde.
Jones’ team faced Citrus Hill in the second round of the playoffs. It was a rematch of the season opener, which Rancho Verde won, 37-34.
But on Friday, the Mustangs trailed Citrus Hill 35-27 with under two minutes to play. Jones led his offense on a 69-yard scoring drive that included an 18-yard scramble on fourth-and-13 and a 25-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds remaining.
Jones threw a touchdown earlier in the fourth quarter that made it a 28-27 game, but his kicker missed the extra point. Rancho Verde failed to convert a two-point attempt after Jones’ late scoring drive, and the Hawks advanced to the semifinals with a 35-33 victory.
Jones finished his senior year with more than 1,600 passing yards and 20 touchdowns through the air. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder remains committed to the Gators but is considering Nebraska and Tennessee as he waits to see who Florida hires as its next coach.
Offensive linemen Tyler Jordan and Brandon Sandifer are the only UF commits whose teams are still alive in the playoffs.
ATH Derrick Dillon, Franklinton (La.) Pine: Dillon accounted for 146 of Pine’s 167 yards and scored his team’s only touchdown in the season-ending 36-7 loss to Kinder (La.). Dillon finished his senior campaign with over 2,500 all-purpose yards and more than 25 total touchdowns.
WR Kalif Jackson, Neptune Beach Fletcher: Jackson’s season concluded with a 28-14 loss to Orange Park Oakleaf. He had more than 500 yards receiving and eight touchdowns on the year.
Really hope we keep all of our commits. We need them all to come for UF to continue to progress.
Hope he stays committed. He played against RoPo’s old high school.
Homer J-I believe he’s from RoPo’s high school. GO GATORS!!
I think Mr. Jones and Mr. Dillon along with Big G-George Brown are all solid. I think they really want to be Gators. GO GATORS!!!
BRGF We’ll see, I’m not as confident as you. All three have been looking more shaky with each passing day.
GATORS will always be Gators.
(and gatorbait will always be gatorbait)
I’m good with that, and NSD is when everyone will know which is which.
No Worries Mates…. :~)
As da mud whistles while walking thru the cemetery.
Don’t worry about CeCe. I know his family and he was raised a Gator. Foley would have to really mess up on the next hire for him not to be in orange and blue next year.
Hold on Sheriron Jones, a QB friendly coach is on his way to Gainesville!
BRGF – you are correct! He is from RoPo’s high school.
