Gators lose Lane

The inevitable has happened.

Homestead receiver Ermon Lane announced his decommitment from Florida on Friday via Twitter, a move that had been anticipated for more than a month.

Lane claims he didn’t back off his pledge because of close friend Dalvin Cook, who flipped to Florida State on New Year’s Eve.

But once Cook was gone and Lane scheduled an official visit to FSU the last weekend before signing day, it was only a matter of time until he parted ways with UF.

The Gators have a several options remaining at the receiver position.

Their top target is junior college prospect Eric Lauderdale. He currently has Florida in front and will make his decision after trips to Arionza State and Oregon.

UF is also in the running for receivers Myles Autry, Isaiah Ford, Isaiah McKenzie, Charles Nelson and FSU commit C.J. Worton, all of whom plan to officially visit this month.

If that doesn’t make Gator fans feel better about losing Lane, these tweets from Florida cornerback commit Quincy Wilson might:

  1. Lane and Cook think they are prima donas. Tabor is rated higher on every recruting site than both of these clowns but the media including the gville sun likes to follow these drama queens. We will have enougj offensive talent and with guys like Willis and Tabor I hope Lane chooses FSU.

  2. Fisher and snowprint use the same gerbil take him to tally with u trolls. We will see who is laughing the final week of next year. Lane and cook the FAST LANE to CRIMINOLE LIFE. TAKE FISHER AND SNOWPRINT THE 2 beotches with you

  3. glad jimbo got a contract extension. last year he was on the hot seat. now he is their savior. mediocre coach. how long will lane decomitting be the title amd Tabor commit will be barely mentioned. note to the gainesville sun: Tabor is higher rated than Cook and Lane on all the recruiting sites

  4. Fisher – here we go again – take your childish nonsense back to your crib. For all of their supposed admiration of loyalty and integrity, they have neither, which is why they belong in Tallahassee. Perfect fit.

  5. MSD- the Noles are a much more popular and well liked team nationally! where as the Gators are , well you know what people think about the Gates. Just the way it is. Nole fans are humble and appreciative, Gates are very aggressive and oppressive. don’t you think?

  6. Gator fans wonder FSWho fans continue to read about the Gators…those of u that can read! Noles r simply nothing but criminoles, Winston shouldn’t even had been playing, but when the university pays off the law enforcement & judicial system what do u xpect! Be proud of ur student athletes (prison population)!!

  7. Hey leave Ermon alone. If he doesn’t think he can compete with Ryan Sousa why bother with him? I mean he didn’t want to go to FSU when Sousa was committed there and now he doesn’t want to come here when Sousa is committed here. In all seriousness I think Lane was overhyped anyways. Way rather have McKenzie or Lauderdale. Let’s hope we pull it out with them! Go Gators!

  8. Noles you have to be kidding. Arrests! Our police dept arrest guys for barking at dogs. Yours covers up rape. You ruined that girls life. Payback will be justice if it has to go to the Supreme Court. How many more are there? Are you proud of this. What can you expect from a fanbase that copies the Atlanta Chokers, I mean Braves. What a cheer.

  9. Hey fswho trolls. When you win back to back in basketball, and football bookends, and your academic standards catch up, then we’ll talk. In the meantime, there’s a great story about ACC academics on CNN.com you should read. Go gators!

  10. Hey James Fisher (Dumbo) The SEC won 7 NC’s in a row. The ACC won’t even get there 7 times must less win it. How would UFS like to play a real schedule? SEC style!!!! You have SEC type athletes in a weak league.

  11. If I was Muscrat, I would pull Lanes offer. He is a chump that will be snuffed out by the likes of Tabor. in the end, he will be selling used cars at Tallacrappee Chevrolet like the lot of washed up nole hasbeens. Good Riddance Lane. Jumbo Flusher i.e. Troll can sniff the gator pickle and move on, clown.

  12. Snowprint-before you try & throw insults my way how about getting my handle right, Einstein. It’s BRGF, idiot. I’m a tried & true Gator fan, bruh! Why are all of these stupid nole fans on here??!! Go to warhawk, spearhead, or renegade.com or something so you all can swap stories. Oh-be sure to check on Jameis Rapeston to make sure he’s back@ TCC on time for bedcheck. Im ridin’ with Quincy, VH3, & Jalen baby. No fly zone will be in effect@ Ron Zook field November 28th baby!!! GO GATORS!!!!

  13. Thrilled about the recruiting class and the new coach hires. All you naysayers can grab ankles and prepare for the insertion because the Gators are back. Let’s not forget that HalfazzU hasn’t been relevant for 15 years and the Mighty Gators are back Baby!!!

  14. Ron Zook, of all clowns, Owns Bobby Flabden field.. Don’t forget Clowns (Errrrr…Criminoles) that UF owns your precious filed. Try winning NCs more than every 20 years. The MIGHTY GATORS will own the title, again, in the next 2 years!!!! (for you mathematically challenged ball sniffers, US will own 3 NC in the past 15 years, bank on it.

  15. FSU won the national championship in football this year, which is a great accomplishment. However, that does not diminish the superiority of UF as an institution both academically and athletically. It’s actually absurd that anyone could feel as if there is room for debate. FSU fans that aren’t delusional are very aware of this and that is why they carry around such a strong inferiority complex. The academic gap between the two universities is staggering and well known. Frankly, FSU is not a very good school and UF is one of the top public universities in the country. In the 2014 US New and World Report ranking of top public schools, UF is ranked 14 and FSU is ranked 40. There’s not much more that can be said for that. When it comes to athletics, the difference is again laughable, especially if you compare basketball – the second biggest NCAA sport. UF has won 2 national championships and FSU has 0. It’s not likely that FSU fans will enjoy winning a national championship in basketball in the foreseeable future either. Of course, UF usually finishes in the top 5 in the Director’s Cup (all sports trophy) while FSU generally winds up in the teens or 20s. Sure, when it comes to football, the two programs are actually competitive but UF is superior there too. UF and FSU have the same number of national championships but UF leads the all-time series, plays in a stronger conference, earns more money, and has a nicer/bigger stadium, better facilities, a larger fan base, wealthier boosters, and a much stronger national brand. UF has also enjoyed more success in the BSC era. Florida fans should be bothered by FSU’s national championship this year but they should not be alarmed. UF is the superior institution and the gap is so wide that things won’t change any time soon. Carry on.

  16. A week ago I would’ve thought that the loss of Cook, Lane and Lammons might send this class into a downward spiral, but this staff has done a great job of replacing the defections and, apparently, making progress with other top prospects. With another top 10 class and new blood on the offensive staff, I think UF has a chance to get back on track next year. Go Gators!!

  17. justin, 2 things that don’t matter:

    1) academics ; tell me when school mattered for football athletes at either place , for that matter any FBS school. When was the last pre med or engineering student athlete evolved. .?
    2) Director cup?? Nobody gives a rats behind

    That was dribble Justin

  18. 407 Gator, I can’y remember a time when UF suffered bad years in recruiting (but of course I’m only 60). We seem to always get great recruits, what we do with them or how they perform is the real question. I though a couple years ago when we didn’t get Benjamin (FSU) that would be a big blow. It would up that it has taken him up til now to develop into what I thought he would be year-one. So, I realise there are many factors to this recruiting and development thing. I think that the staff we have not and the players and their desire to become great GATORS will see us through next year (at least those are my wishes). GO GATORS!!!!

  19. My post was meant for other Gator fans. Also, I think the word you were looking for is “drivel”. I’ll respond though. Academics matter because they are the reason for universities. They matter to me because I have a degree from UF. They might not matter to you because either you have a degree from a weak institution like FSU or you don’t have a degree at all. The Director’s Cup matters because it ranks the overall success of every D1 athletic department. Again, that might not matter to you because FSU’s ranking is usually inferior to UF’s. What does matter to you (it seems) is football and as you know, UF’s program is stronger than FSU’s too. One can’t make a strong argument otherwise. That’s why you’re posting on a Gator message board. You have an inferiority complex.

  20. James Fisher – FSU doesn’t care about academics and that’s why that get our rejects that can’t qualify to get in to UF. If academics don’t matter, many of those on FSU’s roster would be at UF. They have to be able to speak the English language and it was obvious, listening to Winston and the other FSU players, who were interviewed after the game, that they can’t even complete a whole sentence. You feel me, bruh!

  21. Creek Gator, I hear you under normal circumstances, but recruiting following a 4-8 season with a coach sitting on a scorching seat is a different animal, in my opinion. Given those circumstances, I have to give the staff credit. Go Gators!

  22. Why do you people argue with these FSU idiots? They suck for over a decade, have one good year, and then talk trash. Ignore them. Florida will recover and rule them again shortly. Until then, ignore the idiots who hide for ten years and then show up once they run through a soft schedule for one good season.

  23. Interesting to have FSU idiots on here talking crap when it took them 15 years and a paid off QB to get the mythical National Championship. Interesting thing is you plug in LSU into FSU schedule and LSU would be your national champion with their lame weak Notre Dame schedule. Good thing is they wont coast through their schedule next year and when the healthy gators come to smellahassee we will stomp them again and interesting thing our scout team linebackers played well for the first half this year.

  24. Hey Gatorhans, guess what delusional losers say, “Interesting to have FSU idiots on here talking crap when it took them 15 years and a paid off QB to get the mythical National Championship. Interesting thing is you plug in LSU into FSU schedule and LSU would be your national champion with their lame weak Notre Dame schedule. Good thing is they wont coast through their schedule next year and when the healthy gators come to smellahassee we will stomp them again and interesting thing our scout team linebackers played well for the first half this year.” We all know and you know that FSU is going to kick the Gayturds to sleep again next year. Get ready.

  25. My name says it all. FSU is mediocre fro 15 years and then has 1 great year and now they’re a dynasty that cant be stopped? Florida has 2 nat. champs (not to mention the pro factory UF was from 2000-2009) in the last 10 years. Do you pay attention to recruiting? Florida coming off a 4-8 season has a top 10 recruiting class. That will be the first time ever that a team with a 4-8 record has a top 10 class. Florida is THE premier program in the state

  26. Lock em down Quinn Wilson , Go Gators. Ermon lane, I’m not mad at ya. Only you can make the decision that is right for you, but whether it’s FSU, UM or any team you commit to good luck to you and if you happened to be playing The Gators, be prepared to be going up against an awesome Defense. Dalvin Cook we didn’t need, because Kelvin Taylor, Matt Jones and the RB’s we have now are All-Americans in the waiting, if not already. We had some setbacks last year, but come fall, we will be ready be ready to compete for a National Championship. Go Gators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
