Commit of the week: RB Dalvin Cook

Florida coach Will Muschamp and assistant Brian White traveled to Miami on Thursday to watch running back commitment Dalvin Cook in action.

The Under Armour All-American made their trip well worth it.

Cook ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries as Central shutout Coral Reef, 49-0. But that was just his official statline.

The 5-foot-11, 192-pounder also had three scores called back in the first quarter — a 90-yard punt return and touchdown runs of 68 and 46 yards.

Cook took an official visit to Texas over the weekend but told The Sun he is still “100 percent” committed to the Gators following the trip.

Here are some other UF pledges who performed well last week:

QB Will Grier, Davidson (N.C.) Day: Grier threw for 422 yards and five touchdowns on 30-of-40 passing in a 64-14 victory over Harrells Christian Academy. He also had for 201 yards rushing and two more scores on eight carries.

DE Justus Reed, Clearwater Central Catholic: Reed recorded five tackles, three quarterback hurries and a forced fumble to help his team top Tampa Jesuit, 21-3.

CB Duke Dawson, Cross City Dixie County: The two-way player let a potential touchdown reception sail through his hands in the first half against rival Trenton. He made up for it in the third quarter by returning a fumble 52 yards for a score. Dixie County won, 18-7.

CB J.C. Jackson, Immokalee: Jackson returned three punts for 117 yards — including a 77-yard touchdown — and his team defeated Naples First Baptist Academy 39-13 for its first win of the season.

  1. I tell ya what, if our offense doesn’t figure out how to finish drives and rack up points this year, I have no question they will next year. Look at what we’ll have: D Rob, Bailey, Hawkins, Thompson, and Fulwood breaking into their second year, Andre Debose back (could be a big plus could mean nothing), a backfield consisting of Jones, Taylor, Lane, and Cook, then either Driskel (still believe he’s getting too much criticism. Good QB who played well against Miami and took the blame for a TEAM loss. Not right man) or Grier at QB. That’s just scratching the surface! The future of Florida offense looks bright!

  2. This guy can fly. What a combo. Lane is a fast ass bowling ball type – think ray rice. Taylor a classic tailback with great instincts, balance and vision. Cook is quick and explosively fast and elusive. Give him a crack and he can take it to the house.

  3. Thanks for the update Zach. Impressive showing for Dalvin with 18 ypc excluding the 90 yd punt return and the two explosive runs of 68 and 46! Wow! Of course, Grier is slingin’ it AND rushing 25 ypc!
    Anticipation is sweet. 🙂
