Homestead receiver Ermon Lane suffered a minor ankle sprain on the opening kickoff of his school’s season opener against University School on Aug. 25.
The injury limited the Florida commit throughout the game, and he finished with just four catches for 42 yards in the 41-21 loss.
After spending a few days off his feet and returning to full speed, Lane bounced back in a big way Friday.
The nation’s No. 2 wideout caught seven passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns to lead his team a 35-18 victory at Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson. He also returned a punt for a score, but the play was called back.
The Under Armour All-American had scoring receptions of 55 and 45 yards. On the latter play, Lane broke two tackles on his catch-and-run TD and did the Gator chomp in the end zone.
Here are some other UF pledges who performed well last week:
QB Will Grier, Davidson (N.C.) Day: Grier threw seven touchdowns for the second straight week, but this time he only did it in one half of football. He finished with 361 yards on 17-of-24 passing in a 68-0 shutout of North Raleigh Christian Academy.
RB Dalvin Cook, Miami Central: Cook ran 13 times for 142 yards (10.92 avg.) and four scores. His team defeated American Heritage 42-20 and hosts Booker T. Washington this Friday in one of the most anticipated high school football games in the state of Florida this year.
CB Quincy Wilson, Fort Lauderdale University School: In a 61-14 win over Coral Springs Taravella, Wilson made three tackles and return an interceptions 106 yards for a touchdown. It was his second pick-six of the season.
CB Duke Dawson, Cross City Dixie County: The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder shut down Perry Taylor County receiver Moral Stephens, who is ranked in the top 200 of the ESPN and Rivals recruiting rankings. Dawson held the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder to just two catches for 32 yards and intercepted a pass en route to a 22-7 victory.
Nice to see the DB’s holding up and Grier proving the first 7 not a fluke one time deal. Cook going to help us a lot in time at UF. Same with Lane. Lanes routes need more discipline but he is a play maker.
Nice update but some of the great performances came against wimps.
Grier throwing 7TDs in one half is amazing as well as 7TDs the week before. I was wondering how strong of a high school conference he is playing in, compared to lets say.. Armwood HS playing in Hillsborough county?
@RAC – The competition that Grier’s facing is vastly inferior. But don’t let that take away from his accomplishments. This kid threw for 800 yards in a single game last year. That’s virtually impossible to do regardless of competition.
The HS competition Will Grier plays against in NC is a joke. He hasn’t played any of the top HS programs in the state. Not even middle tier programs. The SEC will be a major step up for this QB.
