The nation’s top all-purpose back and No. 3 tight end in the Rivals.com rankings named Florida in their Top 5 this week.
UF made the cut Monday for Oakley (Calif.) Freedom five-star running back Joe Mixon of along with Cal, Oklahoma, Oregon and Wisconsin.
It was another positive sign for the Gators in their recruitment of Mixon, who was offered by Florida in Febuary and spoke highly of the school. However, the 6-foot-2, 207-pounder did not include UF among in his list of favorites July 1. But a month later, on Aug. 2, the Gators made his Top 10 and are now one of his five finalists.
Mixon will officially visit for the Tennessee game on Sept. 21. He also has trips planned to Cal (Sept. 13), Oklahoma (Oct. 4) and Wisconsin (Oct. 12).
On Sunday, Derby (Kan.) tight end DeAndre Goolsby announced a Top 5 of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas State and Ohio State. The 6-foot-4, 221-pounder visited Gainesville with his mother on June 14 and enjoyed meeting the coaching staff.
His official visit schedule is unknown at this time, but Goolsby told The Sun he’s going to take all five of trips and would like to come back to UF for a game.
Awesome. I think Mixon is going to see he belongs in class with Cook.
If we get a guy like Goolsby, what happens to C’Yontai Lewis
Lewis will redshirt.
Just wondering if the Florida coaches offered Lewis with the goal being that the offer would give them an in with the RB, Scarborough, his HS teammate. Doubt Scarborough or Lewis ever play in Gainesville…as Gators.
Speaking of TEs…..anyone surprised by the lack of development of Taylor and Thompson….and the development of Burton and Westbrook???
@tampa
Coach white came to a number of northridge practices initially to see bo but came away Impressed with cyontai and felt like he was good enough to offer. The fact that he’s Bo’s cousin has no effect on the fact that UF was willing to accept his committment. If coach champ didn’t feel like cyontai was UF caliber, he wouldn’t have accepted his commit. Also, cyontai(who claims hes up to 216 now) feels pretty confident bo will be a gator and he also did a gator chomp after he scored last week. Don’t think u have much to worry about. I go to northridge btw.
Todd i am more surprised at you questioning their development before the season even starts.
My brother, Gainesville born and raised, is the SRO at Derby HS. He is really impressed with Goolsby. Says he’s very athletic.
Bo Sc, Jo Mx, DGoos will NOT sign with the Gators. Cyontai is a waist, tall, skinny and slow, will never play a down.
Wow Larry, love your enthusiasm!!! Having a bad day buddy? Sounds like your wife might have just ran off with your best friend, your dog got ran over, and the dryer ate your favorite sox! Chill Dude, it’ll all be better tomorrow.
Goolsby is wearing a lot of Gator Garb around school.
Good Kid and very athletic. Comes from a good family and will be a great addition to the Gator Program if he decides to be a Gator …
[…] should, and Derby (Kan.) tight end DeAndre Goolsby is the one to watch out for. He named UF in his Top 5 last month and will officially visit this fall. He’s a hard to get a read on as far as who […]
