For his 17th birthday, Derby (Kan.) tight end DeAndre Goolsby wanted to spend a week in Florida at the beach.
On Thursday, he took a break from his vacation in St. Petersburg to visit UF with his mother.
“I was excited,” Goolsby said of the trip. “I got to see a lot of stuff. It was interesting. … It helped a lot getting to see what they have out here and what they’re able to do.”

The Rivals250 member had a lengthy conversation with his primary recruiter and potential position coach, Derek Lewis, about how the Gators would utilize him. Florida’s track record with tight ends caught Goolsby’s attention.
“It has a good history, they throw their tight ends the ball,” he said. “Of course, I want to get the ball.”
Goolsby wants to take all five of his official visits and UF will be under consideration for one of those trips.
“I’d like to come back for a game, see how game day is,” he said.
The 6-foot-4, 221-pounder has offers from Arkansas, Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Oregon, among others. He plans to name a group of finalists at the beginning of his senior season and make a decision toward the end.
His determining factors are as follows.
“Coaching staff, gotta fit in with them, has to feel good being around everybody,” Goolsby said. “(Distance) doesn’t really bother me as long as it feels right.”
The Gators seem to fit that criteria.
“I like the (UF) coaching staff a lot,” he said. “The feel — it felt right.”
Nice size. Hope he works out for us to get a better feel.
Come on board, we have room on the roster! Go Gators!
Zach, wasn’t our current tight end commit told that we wouldn’t pursue other TE while he was on board
