Brooklyn (N.Y.) Abraham Lincoln defensive tackle Thomas Holley was offered by Florida in Febuary and evaluated by the Gators during the evaluation period.
The Rivals100 member returned the favor Thursday when he visited UF for the first time.
“It was a beautiful campus,” he said. “I talked to everyone from the coaches to the academic advisors and nutritionists. It was very informative, very intriguing and very thorough. I learned more about Florida with every person I met.”
The highlight of his trip was sitting down with UF coach Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Brad Lawing.
“Talking to the coaches (on the phone) is one thing,” he said, “but seeing them in person and having direct access to them was very different. I also got to see what the school is about by being there physically. It definitely helped a lot.”
Despite living 1,000 miles away, Holley can see himself playing in Gainesville.
“I’ve always been a guy that has traveled a lot, so (distance) doesn’t matter,” he said. “I don’t have a problem going to Florida. It is hot, but I had fun.”
The 6-foot-4, 300-pounder wants to see more schools before sorting through his offers and naming leaders. He will visit Notre Dame and Ohio State this month and then take officials in the fall.
Will he use one to return to UF?
“It’s very possible,” Holley said. “There’s a high chance I will be doing that. I want to come to one of their games to see what the atmosphere is like. I’ve heard it’s electric in The Swamp.”
