A few in-state wideouts stood out at Florida’s first mini camp and session of the summer.
The best of the bunch was Orlando Lake Nona’s Ryan Sousa, who traveled to UF on Tuesday for a workout with receivers coach Joker Phillips.
“He’s one of the best coaches that I’ve ever met,” Sousa said. “He actually sits down and wants to work with you. He takes time to work with you and just the way he explains stuff is so clear.”
The 6-foot, 177-pounder is up to 29 offers, including Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Missouri and UCLA, but the Gators have yet to extend one. His showing at the camp could change that.
“I feel like I did really well,” he said. “All my routes were really crisp and I like how I got off the ball. Basically my route-running and my quickness stood out. They said that they are pretty close. They really want to offer me. They really like how I fit at Florida.”
Receivers Garrett Johnson (Winter Garden West Orange), Moral Stephens (Perry Taylor County) and Kenric Young (Gainesville) looked impressive in Saturday’s mini camp. Like Sousa, they were working toward UF offers and each one helped their cause.
All four prospects have been invited back to Gainesville for Friday Night Lights in late July.
The following recruits received an offer from the Gators this week: 2015 Lakeland Christian running back T.J. Simmons, 2015 Tampa Plant offensive tackle Jake Fruhmorgen, 2015 Jacksonville Trinity Christian defensive tackle Kendrick Norton, 2015 Seffner Armwood defensive end Byron Cowart, and 2016 Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab cornerback Tre Jackson, who is the son of former Florida All-American wide receiver Jack Jackson.
Its a shame we can’t offer and take more guys. Wish we could keep on 100 players like Bama every year.
Love the way Sousa played by the way. I hope to hear more Zach about the position.
Sign Tre Jackson! I loved Jack Jackson back in the day. One of my all-time favorite Gators! I wonder if he was named after Tre Everett?
Cleveland, he is named Tre in all probability because his name is Jack Jackson, III.
COLD!! MooseG8r, but it had to be said. We wouldn’t want our fellow Gator walking around Not knowing Tre was Jack Jackson the third. GO GATORS!!!!
This kid is really good. I’ve seen him play and could tell he was one of the gifted ones. Hopefully, he’ll keep working hard and make the most of the talent he is blessed with.
