Florida recruiting coordinator and receivers coach Joker Phillips has spent the week evaluating some of the top talent in the state of Georgia.
He checked in on five Rivals250 members Thursday. Norcross five-star defensive end Lorenzo Carter was the highest-rated prospect Phillips saw. The Gators are in third place for him behind Alabama and Georgia, but he has never visited UF and plans to in the coming months.
Carter’s teammates — athlete Myles Autry and linebacker Kevin Mouhon — also had Phillips’ attention. The Gators don’t appear to be one of Autry’s favorites, but they’ve gained Mouhon’s interest since offering him April 22.
Phillips dropped in on Buford linebacker Korie Rogers. The Rivals100 member announced five finalists last month and UF didn’t make the cut. He’s scheduled to announce his decision this summer.
However, Florida is in much better position with Marietta Walton cornerback D.J. Smith, who grew up a Gator fan and was seen by Phillips on Thursday. Tennessee is currently the leader for Smith, but he isn’t committing anytime soon and UF has time to make a move for him.
Phillips also visited Cedartown running back Nick Chubb and Monroe Area athlete Stanton Truitt this week, but the Gators aren’t a serious player for either prospect. Chubb is deciding on May 28 and has a Top 3 of Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina, while Truitt looks to be leaning toward Tennessee at this time.
Really don’t see us signing any but Smith. Would love to get Smith.
Will have to wait an see what happens. Don’t see any of these guys in Gator uniforms at the moment.
Not worried about the Buford kid. Most don’t pan out because they don’t play against any real competition.
Tennessee must be filling these kids with all kinds of BS because they havent been relevant in years.
It’s just a good year for Tennessee. Lot of legacies all in 1 year. They’ll go back to average next year
Long time til NSD… We should easily have another top 5 class or better.
Have confidence in Coach………we’ll be just fine.
