Evaluation Period underway

Today is the start of the Evaluation Period for Florida’s staff.

From now until May 31, assistants coaches are allowed to visit the high schools of prospective student athletes for an academic and athletic assessment. Head coaches cannot take part in the two evaluations.

Recruits are now able to receive calls, but any communication with them or their parents must take place on a college’s campus or by phone/mail.

As was the case last year, UF will handle most of its out-of-state evaluations first since spring practices don’t start in the state of Florida until May 1.

In the meantime, the Gators should be checking in on commits Will Grier, Christian Miller and Joesph Paul.

Expect them to also stop by the schools of some of their top targets out-of-state, such as receivers Speedy Noil (New Orleans, La./Edna Karr) and Trevion Thompson (Durham, N.C./Hillside), tight ends Jakell Mitchell (Opelika, Ala.) and Austin Roberts (Carmel, Ind.), offensive linemen Alex Bars (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and Garrett Brumfield (Baton Rouge, La./University Lab), defensive tackles Andrew Brown (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) and Lamont Gaillard (Fayetteville, N.C./Pine Forest), defensive ends Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga.), Da’Shawn Hand (Woodbridge, Va.) and Gerald Willis III (New Orleans, La./Edna Karr), linebackers Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty County) and Dwight Williams (Gardena, Ca./Junipero Serra), and cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson (Gardena, Ca./Junipero Serra) and Jalen Tabor (Washington, D.C./Friendship Academy).

Florida currently has nine members in its class (see HERE) and five scholarships left to offer. The Gators will get room for more additions with any attrition that occurs between now and when the 2014 signees report to campus. That number would ideally be around 20. UF still needs to add at least one more receiver, one more offensive linemen, three more defensive lineman, two more linebackers (Buck included), two more defensive backs, a fullback and a tight end.

  1. I think Sony is all FSU right now. Just my feeling. But i don’t mind if we just have Cook. DE- Willis III, Hand, OT-Ward, Sparkes, and DB Jalen T. Would fill the class out nicely. If their is room at the end. WR- E. Lane, Scott, LB- Mcmillan, and TE- Mitchell. 18 I think is the most we could get away with this year. Hope If we don’t get all the ones we want we hold on for next season. Give a walk on a shot.
