Recruiting weekend rewind

UF coach Will Muschamp hosted four uncommitted prospects over the weekend and two of them are expected to join Florida’s class on National Signing Day.

Port Saint Lucie West Centennial defensive tackle Jay-nard Bostwick officially visited with both of his parents, who are heavily involved in his recruitment.

“It was nice, it was real nice,” Bostwick’s mother said of their trip to UF. “I got a nice tour of the school, I got a lot of information, all of my questions were answered and I think it’s a good fit for him.

“I just fed off of his feelings. He was very anxious to see the town. When we got there, he opened up a lot. I think he’s really comfortable there and that really matters to me.”

Bostwick’s high school coach, Ron Parker, said his four-star standout is closest to Florida’s coaches and their relationship may be the reason he chooses the Gators over Miami and Alabama. His mother shared that sentiment.

“I can honestly agree with him, and I understand why,” she said. “Miami was home and that’s where he’s from, and Alabama was enjoyable and a privilege to visit. But he has a different bond with the Gators I guess. (Defensive tackles coach) Bryant Young is a good guy. He’s just like Jay-nard. They share so many characteristics and they hit it off from the start, so that’s a big plus. He’s like an extension of me and my husband. I’m very, very comfortable with him.”

On Monday, Clark revealed his Top 3 via Twitter with this picture.

New Smyrna Beach receiver James Clark arrived in Gainesville on Saturday for an unofficial visit and stayed overnight. He will announce his decision Wednesday at 9 a.m and his three finalists are Florida, Clemson and Ohio State.

UF quarterback commit Max Staver, who also unofficially visited this past weekend, believes Bostwick and Clark will be Gators.

“I feel confident about James Clark and the defensive tackle (Jay-nard Bostwick),” Staver said. “I think those two had a lot of fun. They were smiling all weekend and hanging out with the coaches and early enrollees. They really enjoyed themselves and I think we have a good shot with both.”

The other uncommitted visitors for Florida were JUCO quarterback Tanner McEvoy (Yuma, Az./Arizona Western C.C.) and receiver Ryan Timmons (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin). McEvoy committed to Wisconsin on Monday and Kentucky will likely land Timmons on Tuesday.

Defensive tackle Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly County) and linebacker Quinton Powell (Daytona Beach Mainland) are also off Florida’s board. On Sunday, Adams eliminated UF from consideration and Powell was told there’s no longer a spot for him in the class.

Some good news for the Gators came from JUCO defensive tackle Jarran Reed (Scooba, Miss./East Mississippi C.C.). He dropped his commitment to Ole Miss on Sunday and will choose between Alabama and Florida this Wednesday.

  1. Thanks Zach.

Bostwick having common characteristics as Coach Young would be a compliment.

If Ramsey goes to FSU then I hope he does not care about never winning a BCS title. Cause FSU is not even on that level.

  2. And Bama just brought in a the commitment of a big-time 5* DT and will probably get another one 4*, and that could be what push Reed to UF on Wednesday.

Clark said academics are a huge selling point for him and if he’s serious, UF is the leader in that dept. in his final three by a long shot.

Ramsey is another possibility. I just don;t get what he sees in FSU expcept early PT, but they are now on the way down IMO.

Now, what could be interesting is that Powell was told “there’s no more room in UF’s class”. This Wednesady looks to be exciting IMO.

  3. Three things:
-No one knows what Ramsey will do and those who say they do are just repeating what they hear other people say
-Ashawn Robinson is not committed yet buddy. Maybe silently. Which could possibly help with reed but the consensus is that bama wants both. They would probably forget reed if they get vanderdoes but I don’t really think that will happen.
-I think we have a surprise coming on NSD but its a rumor so ill keep it to myself until further notice 🙂

  4. I have a straaaaaange feeling that Big Rob might pull the ol’ switcheroo on Ol’ Miss…he was in town (Baton Rouge) over the weekend for a token visit (all the tigah fans are all up in arms for no reason but anyway) but something tells me Ol Will the Thrill has a trick up his sleeve…I think all of the above guys save for Adams are coming to UF-Ramsey included. Tomorrow will be exciting for sure…Go Gators!!!

  5. Ramsey is the biggest need of the above, imo. Not this season, but if Roberson(very likely) and Purifoy(somewhat likely) leave early, joining the SR Watkins, Ramsey will be needed, along with Poole and Hargreaves, to form a great CB group in 2014. Hope Ramsey sees this, and that playing more at F$U as a FR is not worth being a ‘hole. BTW, the criminoles have enough experienced CBs that Ramsey would play more, but probably not start there, either, as a FR.

  6. I for one am not getting caught-up in the signing day drama. Muschamp & Co did a fantastic job locking up a great class regardless of the guys left on the board. My only wish when I say my prayers tonight is that all the 4 and 5 star guys still on the board that don’t go our way, go someplace outside the SEC away from our opponents…..FSU too.

  7. Holy cow! Just talking to some Gator fans about big surprise nsd. If he does sign with us it will be one BIG surprise! I wont spoil it for everyone by saying his name but I will say this-its not Big Rob. This kid is BIG and he is from Florida! Yeah GO GATORS!!!!!

  8. Ramsay should look at Hargreaves and realize they can be a 1-2 punch at CB that doesn’t allow QB’s to “throw to the other side”. Being ONE shutdown corner for a team only guarantees that you have few chances to make a big play. But if the guy on the other side is just as good, you will get plenty of balls thrown your way. Vernon should be a selling point for Ramsay, not a deterrent.

  9. Clark looks fantastic in his highlight videos. It’s a great sign that he is looking for the Gators to show that they are a solid academic School. Florida is like Harvard compared to Ohio State and Clemson. I also feel good about Bostwick. It sounds like his family is ready to join the Gator Nation.

  10. Dont disagree if Ramsey would wait a year or two he’ll most likely end up with a ring.I just cant forget that Roberson,Purifoy,Watkins are back for at least a year and Poole is most likely gonna shock Gnation when they see him get real PT.Riggs is still around also, deep deep cb rotation.

  11. It looks like a fantastic class.
Latest reports have Ramsey already switched to FSU.
Apparently, he has told the coaches too.
Too bad Quinton Powell waited so late. Latest reports say Florida, Southern Cal and South Carolina have no room for him in this class.
Glad we are getting to of the top running backs in the country in Adam
Lane and Kelvin Taylor. Lane’s senior highlight video now on youtube is amazing. He is fast with breakaway speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!
Looking forward to the silent commitment surprise on Wednesday.
