UPDATE: Four-star safety Leon McQuay III (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) was a surprise visitor in The Swamp on Saturday.

Florida coach Will Muschamp will have three official visitors on hand when as the Gators host Kentucky.

The only uncommitted propsect is four-star defensive tackle Greg Gilmore (Hope Mills, N.C./South View), who is making his second trip to Gainesville.

Muschamp, who is personally recruiting Gilmore, has put on the full-court press and made him feel at home when camped at UF on June 9.

“I feel like he needs me in the program, not just wants me as a player,” Gilmore said. “I think one thing that separates Florida is the family atmosphere. It’s more of a family than a business. He tries to instill different things in his players  besides business as usual.”

Gilmore said relationships are the key factor in his recruitment and his closeness with the LSU coaching staff has made the Tigers his favorite. He’ll be looking for a similar bond from Florida this weekend with his parents.

“I’m trying to get a better relationship with coaches and players and see how they interact with each other. I wanna get up close and personal with the team. I’m an outspoken person, so I’m gonna ask questions and find out what I need to know. I’m gonna have a good time with the gameday atmosphere, too,” said Gilmore, who will officially visit LSU on Nov. 3 and make his decision shortly afterward.

The other two visitors are UF quarterback commit Max Staver and USC cornerback commit Jalen Ramsey, who are teammates at Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tenn.

Staver arrived in Gainesville on Thursday night and Ramsey will come down Friday. Rated a five-star prospect by Rivals.com, Ramsey hasn’t felt any pressure from Staver to switch to Florida.

“Of course he wants me to come, but he doesn’t bug me about it,” Ramsey said. “He just lets me know Florida is where it’s at and he would love for me to be a Gator.”

Staver wouldn’t be the only one. Ramsey said his family has always been Gator fans and he’s ready to find out why.

“All I heard growing up was how great Florida is, so I’m interested to see it for myself,” Ramsey said. “I’m still solid to USC, but I let them know when I committed that I wanted to take some visits and Florida was always somewhere I wanted to go. So I’m definitely looking forward to it.”

Ramsey said he knows USC and Vandy will also receive official visits, but he doesn’t have any dates set yet.

Other than Gilmore and Ramsey, there aren’t any other notable targets expected to attend. But new offensive tackle transfer Tyler Moore and 11 members from Florida’s class plan on visiting unofficially.

  1. How much do you want to bet that Burtons back spasms = a failed drug test. ala Aron Hernandes.
Oh well, back spasms looks better in the headlines than a player smoking th weed.
Great off the field coverage by Muschamp and his staff:) as long as there is no police report we can keep it all under wraps.
Go Gators, Get’em in October and Finish Strong in December.
Shout out to Driskel for a great start on your sophomore year!!

  2. @ gAtOrChOMp,
I think it’s in poor taste to speculate such a character destroying accusation about a kid, especially after he have display such GOOD character to this point in his career here at Florida.
If you have some facts or know something that is not being told then tell that, but if you are just throwing out some innuendo I think you are wrong for putting someones character on display that may not reflect his true self. Just as you post was, this is just my opinion. GO GATORS!!!!

  3. Agree w/ Creek Gator! I think that this gator squad has a different feel to it than the ones Meyer put out, and not only regarding the way they play on the field. Muschamp seems to value character, and I don’t think it would be in line with the way he’s conducted himself and his level of expectations of the team to be dishonest in this way. You should be more careful in what you say, especially regarding college kids w/ bright futures unless you have some inside information, in which case, please provide that rather than harmful suggestions.

  4. CREEK GATOR said it perfectly, very poor taste to accuse Burton of anything without facts. Let the media do their job or the U of F release information which they always do and have. Gatot Nation has no business throwing out innuendos or any negative publicity without facts. TOTALLY OUT OF LINE. GO GATORS.

  5. Lets not get overly judgmental here fellas. GaToRcHomp is just posting something he thought was funny and possible. Burton is and upstanding young man that does soup kitchen work plus follows God to the best of his abilities. I don’t think any of the for mentioned could be true but they are kids that make mistakes. Lets take a step back and just say ok. You can disagree with respect. Zach how about the attendees and what did you hear from Harris so far?

    • J,
Harris is visiting Oklahoma this weekend. No need for me to call him and he rarely picks up his phone anyway. He’s visiting for the LSU game and I’ll have an update on him then. Ramsey’s phone is off and Gilmore hasn’t answered. I will try both again tomorrow.

  6. It would be good if such comments, like the ones made by “GatorChomp”, are removed from any place on this site, if they do not provide proof. Those were some harsh accusations, regarding a young man that has been nothing but what we want at UF! Burton would be the last person, on the team, that I would suspect of such behavior and I think Muschamp has made it clear that he will announce suspensions. He may not give the reason; however, he will identify it as a disciplinary action.

  7. Let’s calm down. The guy apologized for the comment. Let’s move on or better yet, stay on subject.

Really interested to hear how the kids liked the game and the environment. In a perfect world, they’d like it enough to commit. 😉

  8. @Omaha_Gator

The recruiting tab just needs to be updated to the correct URL. It’s currently at recruiting.gatorsports.com while it needs to be updated to recruing.blogs.gatorsports.com. I didnt realize that all last week and just though i was banned for the recruiting page. But all is well now, just needs updating.

  9. I have to say that I’m impressed with the team as a whole this year as compared to last year. The offense has made leaps and bounds from last year and I can’t wait to see Driskel and the gang of receivers continue to develop as the year goes on. One thing that does scare me, however, is our pass rush and secondary play at times. They can both be very inconsistent. I would really love to see someone other than Easely or McCray emerge as a consistent pass rusher with Easely looking to be injury prone. Also, our secondary seems to be lost at times and you could definitely see it against Kentcuky. Had their starter been playing, they would have had several oppurtunities with wide open receivers that Newton missed terribly. So I hope we sure that up in the off week.
