Running list of attendees for Friday Night Lights

It’s FNL week, folks! I’m sure you all are as excited as I am. This time of year means football season is almost here and recruiting will pick up once the Quiet Period ends on July 31.

UF coach Will Muschamp will have over 100 prospects on hand for Friday Night Lights, many of whom could become commitments during the event or down the road. (Matt Stamey/The Gainesville Sun)

Things kickoff this Friday with all of Florida’s 17 commitments and several high-profile visitors scheduled to be in The Swamp for the showcase. None of the 2013 targets are expected to make a decision this early, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Gators gain a few pledges given the excitement this event generates.

Here’s a running list of confirmed attendees that plan on coming. This blog will be updated every night with any new additions or cancellations that occur. I’ll also have a preview story on Thursday night as well as some features throughout the week.

  1. Awesome list of prospects. Hope they all have fun and ball out. But no mention of A. Baily in attendance. Also, I hope the coaches reach out to TE Adam Brennamen (PSU commit). Favored the Gators before choosing PSU.

  2. Zach,
Can you please ask Muschamp if he will contact TE Adam B.? Also, can you see if Adam would still have a interest in the Gators sense we were in his top three before he committed. Thanks So Much! Go Gators!!!

    • Jack,
Tunsil said he was done with summer visits back in June. He didn’t go to the showcases at FSU or Georgia either.
      And J,
I haven’t confirmed that Bailey will be there. He was expected to visit for a summer camp and never showed. By the way, I’m told he still does NOT have an offer from UF and has to show up on campus to earn one. As far as Adam Breneman, he is sticking with Penn State. Yesterday he said, “everything I committed to the University for is still there.”

  3. Zack…..

I would love to here from these players after FNL…where they now stand:

    1. Demarcus Walker
    2. Jordan Sherit

Also….why did Shaq Wiggins come to FNL? He has been trying to convert all the recruits he meets at events to go to Georgia. I would assume he is at FNL to do the same.

  4. Also, any updates on potential PSU recruits? I’d hope we would show some class and not try to take players away from PSU, but if any of their players were interested in us, I wonder if we’re interested in them.

  5. In order:

    1. Shaq Wiggins (To see if we could possibly sway him from UGA)
    2. DeMarcus Walker (Get his last thoughts on the Gators before he commits on August 3rd)
    3. Antonio Riles
    4. Jordan Sherit
    5. Marcel Harris

  6. Zach, just wondering if we could hear from Taylor and Lane as a running back duo? And our secondary commits on how they think we could form a dominating seondary, so called “dynasty” ? Thanks you doin good work

  7. Why is Vernon Hargraves III not attending FNL? Is it really true that he is secretly planning to play for his dad at USF? Also is Robert Nkemdiche not intersted in FNL or have we just not taken the time to recruit him since he committed to Clemson?

    • Lighty and GatorBK,
Hargreaves has decided to visit UF Thursday instead of Wednesday, so I’ve added him to the list. He can’t attend FNL because he’s participating in Gridiron Kings. Don’t know where you heard that he was secretly planning to play for USF. The Bulls aren’t even in his Top 5. He’s going to commit sometime during the next four weeks and with Florida being his leader, expect him to be a Gator.

  8. Key to our success: Offensive Line.

NOTHING gives more indissoluble confidence to a collective team and is more demoralizing to its foe!

Hope our list of OL grows and that they are made to feel as important as they really are!

I am glad K. Taylor understands this.

  9. Zach,

Sure it has been discussed on your Staff and not sure if this falls in your espertise but when will we see something concerning possible gains from the Penn State fallout? Saw today on CBSSports. com where Bill Beldon could be a possibility to us if he decides to leave and that would be an incredible gain of a playmaker. Thanks!

  10. Zach, would like your thoughts on Walker, if you talk to him. He seems all over the place, but outside of Tunsil and VH3 is our biggest target……. Also it looks like Pagano will be announcing tonight and he has UF logo on FB page – is he a Gator?

  11. Zach, I have a friend that works at the Gridiron Kings camp and has been for a few years and he has spoken to Hargraves personally a few times already and the feeling is that he is leaning heavily towards joining his dad at USF. He hasnt mentioned it publicly but dont be surprised if he does commit there.

  12. From I’ve seen so far, our recruiting efforts on Defensive side are good, but I would like to hear from the offensive recruits, especially the RBs and WRs…how the they feel about the Gator offense?

  13. Zach, you’ve already heard me singing this guy’s praises, but I am stating once gain that Josh Mercer would be a great addition to this class. He has the electricity of a Harvin or Rainey, and it would be great to grab a RB out of the state of Georgia as far as recruiting goes.

  14. Clemson has gotten and wasted the most athletes in the ACC except fo FSU. These guys get GREAT athletes and can’t even win the weak a.. ACC. But I have to give it to them they seem to beat us out everytime for these talented players. What is it anyone sees in Clemson? Its not the great coaching, its not the great league, it not a chance to play for the National title, Its not the great campus and the best facilities in the country, what is it? I will not going to say that they cheat, or doing something unethical, but if its something legal WE BETTER GET SOME and plenty of it, these guys are eating our lunch. Don’t get me wrong we are doing pretty good in recruiting and that may be the reason we are losing some of these guy, I guess we should be thankful for what we do have, because it’s nothing to sneeze at. We are in pretty good shape. GO GATORS!!!!

  15. You got me on that one, Creek. When you look at their class both this year and last, once you get past the first 5 or 6 headliners it waters down quickly. Still, the Fighting Dabo’s are doing an incredible job as of late with recruiting.

  16. 1. bo scarborough- goes to my school.
    2. kain daub- do we still have a chance
    3. D. walker- how close is it between us and bama
    4. jordan sherit- how much would a VHlll commit impact him
    5. marquez north- do we have a legit shot with him
    6. marcell harris- no reason just want to c where he stands

  17. Troll here: WM does just fine in recruiting given that he has one year of HC experience and lead the Gators to their worst season in Thirty (30) years. Yes, yes, I know about the ‘mess’ he inherented but he will be able to ‘ride that horse’ for exactly 2 years, 2012 and 2013. And, NO, I am not just overly negative. I just have a higher standard of achievement than some of you other posters. Right now, UF is only an after-thought in the SEC-East. That may be fine for some but it is not fine with me. The Troll-EMK

  18. EMKay cartmen. lol

    D. Walker – are you a silent commit to Bama and just showing UF some love to through us off?
Jordan S. – do you think you may be the key to bringing back UF DL presser and will you commit soon?
    M. North – Is UF your new leader with your top picks taking other WRs?
    M. Harris – Having negative family ties, do you feel you will not be given a chance to make your own legacy at UF and so holding your commitment?
Nick G. – are you scared of depth charts and competition?
Bo S. – Is UGA your heart and UF your leader? Tell i said “follow the leader.”
    A. Riles – With depth not be a concern anymore is UF your leader now?

  19. emk i just got 1 question, what the h*** does what you just said have to do with what everybody else is talkin about??? that has nothing to do with telling zach who we want him 2 interview. u have no life…..

  20. Hey Zack,

Whats the deal with Stacy Coley? He isn’t attending and we have an offer to another wide receiver. Do you think he is considering us right now or do you imagine we are going to lose him? Also, where would you place him as far as talent in our WR’s that have verbally committed and the ones are pursuing right now as well?

  21. Talk with Dillan Lawson about where he stands with Florida after his decommitment. Where does he stand academically, and will he be able to make up the ground he needs to in order to rejoin this class?

  22. Why do we struggle to get OL numbers now? When we had dominating lines, it seemed we’d get 4-5 commits a year and always good depth. We’ve not had much depth the last few years and it seems we sign 2 or 3 a year. Do you see that trend changing, hopefully soon?

  23. “Right now, UF is only an after-thought in the SEC-East”

Well this after-thought team lost by 4 points to Georgia and 5 points to South Carolina, both away from the swamp and without a healthy QB. Doesn’t seem like we are that far off to me.

Saban went 7-6 his first year at bama, including losing to louisania-monroe at home. They got much better the next year.

  24. Denying reality does not alter reality regardless of how often an assertion is repeated. By the way, ending the game @ Georgia with 4 points less than Georgia is counted as a loss. Ending the game @ USC with 5 points less than USC is counted as a loss. In terms of HC experience and winning in the SEC there really is no comparison between Saban-WM. Before coming to Alabama, Saban was a proven winner at LSU. WM seems like a nice enough guy who was an competent defensive coordinator with no HC experience. So, let’s stop ‘huffn’-and puffn’ about what we think is going to happen. Hope is indeed a good thing but it must not be confused with baseless certainty.

  25. emk is not a gator fan. he(or she) is just someone who has nothing else better to do other than consistently come on this website with negative things to say. a negative post every now and again i can relate to. but emk’s posts are a waste of time and brain cells. its really annoying.

  26. Why do the Florida Gator’s persist in NOT making South Florida a recruiting priority?

On the list you provided there about 5 guys from South Florida—one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the nation—it seems that UM and FSU always do a better job in Palm Beach–Miami Dade—and Broward County.

The only place Muschamp goes is St. Thomas Aquinas and maybe Dwyer but he needs to step it up. The South Florida base of talent is awesome and we are missing the boat bigtime!

Muschamp is almos never down here and the program needs to be more visible in South Florida!!!!!!!!

  27. Zach- Who are the early enrollees?? How many spots left??

Lawson- ask him if he is willing to go to prep school for a year then uf. Would he choose this route over a sure thing at another school?

Fennell- what his time table for announcement? Zach: is he the Plan b for tunsil? Who else is? The timing is important for this reason

Committed OLs- are they 100% solid? Other visits?

  28. Saying UF is an afterthought in the EAST is not a reality. Georgia and South Carolina certainly didn’t think they were an afterthought as they were fighting for their life in the games with UF. Now if UF lost by 30 points to both teams, then you could say UF is an afterthought and that they don’t even worry about the gators.

The saban example just goes to show that even a veteran, proven HC can go to a powerhouse program and have a 7-6 year his first year. My guess is if Muschamp lost to louisinia-monroe at home you’d call him the worst coach of all time. But saban did it and he’s a genius.

  29. To Gatorfan, and the rest of the ‘he’s not a Gator crew’: My basic criticism is not with WM but rather with AD Foley. A couple of short years ago, UF was a yearly Top Five program with a great fan base, fertile recruting territory and the ability to hire the very best as a HC. We got WM. Does anyone out there think he was the very best qualified guy for the job? For those who think so, we simply have very different perspectives. I hope I am wrong and could very well be so. Time will tell not juvenile personal attacks on a blog.

  30. Is being the heir apparent at Texas not qualified, being the best defensive coordinator in America not make him qualified, coming from the Nick Saban tree not make him qualified, does growing up in Gainesville and understanding the passion of the fans here not make him qualified? Who would you rather have? I want a name.

  31. EMK, first of all, to criticize Foley about his ability to hire top talent or even to question him at all is ridiculous because Florida’s athletics program has unquestionably been the best in the country over the past decade. We have won the past two capital one cups for christs sake (the award given to the best athletics program if you didn’t already know.) There’s more to athletics than football. And as far as criticizing Muschamp goes, the man has only had 2 years on the job, give him a chance. You’re right about many of our current and past issues, but you have to realize that in his first full year of recruiting last year, he assembled a top 5 recruiting class and he will most likely do the same again this year. That’s phenomenal considering that UF isn’t even on the map among elite schools right now. Also, how could you expect us to do anything on the field when we’re in the process of changing our entire offensive philosophy? We’re trying to run a pro-style offense while lacking the players to do so. Once Muschamp’s current recruiting classes mature, we’ll be just fine. I’ll put money on it that UF will once again be in title contention in 3-4 years.

  32. Jeffrey and KW, You are both right. But you are also wasting your time talking to EMK with logical arguments or hopeful expectations. EMK wants none of that. It’s the same old broken record over and over with him. He’d rather Muschamp fail, meaning the Gators lose, than to see him succeed and the Gators win; just so he can say he was right.
He feeds on the negativity. Unfortunately we keep feeding the monster, so to speak, every time we engage him. It only encourages more of the same from him. It’s always the same message, same tone, same demeanor and then the same typical responses to everyone’s perceived “attacks on him.” I usually know what he’s gonna say before I even read his post or his reply to a post. It’s pretty predictable. I said once before though, it’s like watching a car accident. You don’t want to see it but for some unknown reason…you. just. can’t. look. away.

  33. travis
on the website im on they have been talking about a twitter chat between bailey, fulwood, and VHlll where it sounds VHlll will commit today with sherit possibly and bailey to commit tomorrow. theres also been talk of barnwell possibly committing tomorrow as well. needless to say, we may get a few 2014 prospects as well. could be a very exciting thursday-friday for gatornation!!

  34. Dear Jeffrey: you requested a ‘name’. The obvious name is Neubar Akajanian. He, too, is from the Saban Tree having lived in the woods just outside of B’ham for three years. He schooled SOS on how to throw a football. He was born in G’ville and raised-up in Trenton. Passion, he’s got it and howls at the moon every full moon. That my dear Jeffrey is not only the ‘name’ but the obvious one for HC. Warmest personal wishes, EMK

  35. Can anyone answer this question:

Does the general public have access to FNL….in the stands….or is it closed to the public. I was thinking about taking a bike ride from Tampa to Gainesville and would drop in at THE SWAMP if FNL is open to the public.

  36. EMK,
Where is Neubar Akajanian coaching right now? I’m not being critical and am asking the question because I have never heard of the coach and believe me I’m no sports bible of any kind. I’m REALLY asking because of my ignorance, Is he a head coach or has he been one if so, where? Go GATORS!!!!

  37. EMK,
Mike Leach would be nice but not for UF. Not a big enough D on his mind to win it consistently. Time precision passing with gimmicky looks not for me. When the pass breaks down I want to have an Athlete/Baller to get the job done. Big Ben, Cam Newton, Tim Tebow, RG3, Andrew Luck… my kind of team that big time D’s love.
    Kyle, travis, gatorfan,
If we take Baily and/or North were not taking Barnwell with Harris still being a option. There is still TE Jordan and RB/WR Mercer to consider.
    Zach, what do you think?

  38. Sorry guys, I’m stuck on this NEUBAR AKAJANIAN, Please excuse me for my ignorance, but “WHO THE HELL IS THAT”? And how did EMK jump from this guy to Mike Leach? EMK, come to my rescue, I’m drowning here. I appologize to the rest of you with more serious post but I’m seriously trying to see if there is anything real about EMK or is he just here for Shits and Giggles (no offense EMK).

  39. Zach twitted that Alex Anzalone was at FNL! He said that he did not get a chance to interview him tonight, but he will interview him tomorrow! I find that interesting that he showed up after commiting to notre dame not too long ago!
