GHS corner Bivins picks up unexpected offer

The attention is growing for Gainesville High cornerback Chris Bivins.

He grabbed his first college offer from South Florida last month and has been getting a lot of interest from different SEC schools in the last few weeks.

Now, Bivins has his second offer of the year. And it literally came from left field.

Right before he suited up for Tuesday’s track practice, his new high school football coach, James Thomson, informed him that Utah had verbally offered him. Bivins said Thomson’s cousin is a coach at Utah and that Thomson is the one who first got the staff interested in him.

Bivins said he hasn’t spoken with anyone from Utah and barely knows anything about the Utes, but is excited by the offer.

“I know they’re a great program and have great coaches,” Bivins said. “That’s pretty much it, but I plan on learning more about them.”

Bivins said he will try to make it out to Salt Lake City this summer to check out Utah’s campus and meet with coaches.

Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas, Rutgers, Florida State, Miami and Georgia Tech have all been in contact with Bivins this spring.

Bivins visited USF, Georgia Tech and Florida this spring. Florida defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson also invited him back to camp at UF this summer.

  1. Wait till after your senior season to commit, Bivins.

IF there is a high school football season, after the “powers that be”, who have misspent more money than you can imagine, decide to cut high school athletic budgets to meet the financial shortfall THEY caused.
