GHS corner Bivins picks up USF offer

Gainesville High cornerback Chris Bivins got some huge news over the weekend.

While traveling up to Atlanta for Georgia Tech’s Junior Day Friday, the 6-foot, 170-pound athlete received a verbal offer from South Florida — his first college offer.

The news was humbling, but Bivins isn’t rushing to name USF — or anyone — his leader. He wants to really dissect the recruiting game before he gets into lists and favorites.

“Honestly, I am still taking it all in,” Bivins said. “This is truly a blessing and it is a decision that I must consider carefully.”

Though Georgia Tech didn’t offer Bivins, he does have a lot of interest in the Yellow Jackets.

“I like them a lot,” he said. “I love the fact that they stress academics, because football doesn’t last forever. They have a very qualified school and I think they’re close to offering me, so hopefully they do.”

Other schools showing interest in Bivins include Florida, Tennessee, Florida State, Miami and Arkansas.
