The more Latroy Pittman visits Gainesville, the more he feels at home, at peace.
Startled by the sudden resignation of former Florida coach Urban Meyer, the 2012 Citra Marion County wide receiver tried his best to stay content with his commitment to the Gators. However, his strong relationship with Meyer made him uneasy at the thought of playing for another coach.
It wasn’t until he spoke with new coach Will Muschamp that his uncertainty was destroyed. The two might not have the bond he and Meyer had, but Pittman says he still feels as though he’s found the perfect fit at Florida.
“You took the words right out of my mouth,” said Pittman when he was asked if he was ready to move to Gainesville. “I feel so at home when I’m up there. It’s like a feeling you get when you just know something feels right, that no other place can give you that factor.”
Pittman made a short trip to Gainesville this weekend to hang with his future teammates and speak with Muschamp. Though he didn’t spend much time with new offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, who was hanging out with the likes of 2011 receiver commit Ja’Juan Story (Brooksville Nature Coast) and Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer quarterback Jacoby Brissett (unofficial visit), Pittman said his brief contact with Weis led him to believe that he was a “pretty cool guy.”
The coach Pittman did hang out with was new receivers coach Aubrey Hill. The two have grown close in a short period of time and Pittman said he expects their relationship to only blossom in the next few years.
“Man, we hit off so good,” Pittman said of he and Hill. “He’s a real cool dude. I like him. I feel we are gonna have a great four-year relationship, well, life-time at that, even when I leave (after his Florida career is over), I feel we’ll keep in touch.”
Pittman said he expects to get an early jump on his college career by enrolling at UF next January. Besides his eagerness to permanently get on campus, seeing 2011 quarterback Jeff Driskel at UF has him wanting to develop chemistry early with his future teammate.
Pittman might be a year away from his Gainesville arrival, but he’s still trying to comprehend playing in a Weis offense and getting to play with Driskel. Pittman admits he’s a little starstruck right now.
“That’s what I can’t wrap my head around,” he said. “It’s crazy when you think about it.”
This is what we need more often in Gainesville. Players like Pittman who truly excited to ba a Gator, not these prima donnas.

I agree that we need more kids who consider it a privilege to be a gator and truly want to be in Gainesville! Can’t wait to see what next year’s recruiting class will look like when it is all said and done!
I’ve always believed you have to be a ‘FULL TIME INVESTED GATOR’ to play there – – -if your heart isn’t in it oryou’re going there for selfish reasons, go elsewhere please! It takes team work to win, not prima donnas. If Pittman is a true gator- – – welcome aboard!
Gotta love the Gators finally giving some of these talented Marion County athletes a chance. This county is stocked with top notch athletes and it is a testament to the job these coaches have done here to keep these kids on the right path.
GO GATORS!
I hope this guy don’t turn into Tim Jernigan, betrayed us for FSU and LSU , he doesnt I would love to have him on board .
Welcome Latroy! You will cherish your time in Gainesville and will be a Gator for the rest of your life. It never leaves you. Welcome!
Come on home man! Once a Gator always a Gator!
Timmy J will be a Gator. Write it down.
The Noles own the state—after that blowout win by fsu, the top recruits will be coming to Tallahassee from now on, not gville–book it.
That’s what I want. Elite players who want to be Gators, not 3-stars who say they’re committed, but “50-50” to another school also, making our new coaches waste valuable time re-recruiting them- in vain(see Houndshell).
Timmy J did not betray anyone…he is welcome to experience the visits to other schools…if a big time school had an opportunity for you to play right away versus waiting 2-3 years, who wouldn’t be interested regardless of your allegiance…you have to take care of yourself and others around you wherever you will be the happiest…too many hypocrites…I agree that there is no doubt Timmy will be Gator.
With or without Tim Jernigan the Gators will Win another National Championship in the next three years. Allow Tim to make his decision without alot of betrayal talk. He has to do what he thinks is right for Tim Jernigan. If he choses Florida, welcome aboard, if he goes somewhere else best of luck to you. We will still win a NC in the next three years, its not like that one player is the missing piece of the puzzle. Yes he would be a welcome addition, but lets get after some of the other players thats on the board with equal or better talent and maybe more of a desire to be in Gainesville. Go GATORS!!!
pitman its great to have u guys and its great to be a gator welcome welcome welcome you will finally see what the hype is all about at gator natio
