It seems that Southern Cal’s problems are now rippling to other schools.
ESPN’s Joe Schad reported Friday night that USC true freshman running back Dillon Baxter told the school’s director of compliance that five schools have illegally contacted him since the NCAA’s rulings on USC penalties.
In a letter written by USC director of compliance Matt Billings to Pac-10 Associate Commissioner for Governance and Enforcement Ron Barker, the five schools listed were Florida, Washington, Oregon, Fresno State and Alabama, according to ESPN.
Part of the letter stated that Billings, “just met with [Baxter], and he told me that he received phone calls from five institutions [June 10th]. All of the institutions asked if he was interested in transferring from USC due to the NCAA decision. Would you please speak with these schools to remind them they cannot speak to this student athlete?”
When asked about the allegations, Florida spokesman Steve McClain told The Sun that UF denies the accusation. Oregon coach Chip Kelly also told ESPN that neither he nor anyone at Oregon had contacted Baxter.
If the allegations prove to be true, it would be considered a secondary violation.
Baxter, a five-star recruit from San Diego Mission Bay, was recruited by most schools in the country and has been compared to former USC running back Reggie Bush. As a junior, he rushed for 1,250 yards and 16 touchdowns, while passing for 1,300 yards and 11 scores. He also had 11 receptions for 150 yards and four touchdowns.
More Lane Kiffen crapola! The little poppin jay is trying to bring us down with him. Hey, great choice little Lanieeee! Long live your probation, and after a couple of losing seasons that will be over-hyped by a friendly media, maybe you can get $5 million dollars to coach the Seattle Seahawks.
Say goodbye to USC on the national scene for awhile. Oh how the adoring press will miss them!
Kiffin taught everyone to shrug off secondary violations with a smirk, so he only has himself to blame for other schools (allegedly) going after his commitments and players, with, of course, a smirk.
How’s that dream job now, LK? I couldn’t be happier for the USC family. How you feeling Sentreal, Baxter, etc? Everybody tried to warn you about drinking the Kool-Aid, but no, you had to do it. Now, whereever you land, everyone will know that you made the wrong choice. You all were warned by people who were in the ‘know’, that anyone who chooses LK does so at their peril.
I hope other teams cannabalize USC’s roster. LK will be irrelevant for the next six years of his career. Much like the first six–in which he accomplished NOTHING but convincing, weak-minded, confused, self-absorbed young men into drinking the Kool-Aid. Enjoy.
It’s great to be a Florida Gator. Go UT. You know they are loving all this…
Hey Kiffin, how does the UT job look now? I guess USC’s biggest problem right now is figuring out how to get Reggie Bush’e cash laundered through Ed Ogre-on so it can be used to support all the 4 and 5 star football talent that decides to “walk on” at USC for the “opportunity to earn a degree at USC”………
Ed,
Sounds to me as another insprired Lane Kiffin smear tactic against UF and some others. When will we be done with this guy!
John in Las Vegas
Fess up Ed, you contacted him didn’t you?
Ya’ know, this whole sanctions thing could not happen to a more deserving coach.
WOW! SC traded a slime for a sleaze! KARMA
Sounds to me that your god (Urban) broke the rules and as usual the homer nation is trying to make excuses for him….scumbags
You’re right Don. Guess us Gator fans should make excuses for Urban Meyer because it’s not like Lane Kiffin has ever FALSELY accused him of breaking the rules in the past right?
Moron
Simple solution! Show us the Lil’ Baxtard’s phone call records for proof of the calls.
I’m with Gatorman 770, Phone calls are traceable get the records and solve the mystery. We all know what kind of guy LK is and if disgruntled “Don” wants so badly to harm the Greater Gator Nation by following that garbage up let him that the only life he has. Hey Don look at our roster, we have great players that one kid is not worth violating for, in fact he should have been trying to contact us along with the kid from Minn. Seantrel. This was there second chance to win a NC or two before they left college, if they are as good as billed they will be gone after their 3rd year. I say two NC in less than 3 years would have been a great accomplishment for a college student.
