Q&A: Mack Brown

In our second Q&A with a 2010 Gator commit, we have Lithonia, Ga., running back Mack Brown. He spent most of the spring trying to heal a bum hamstring. He an a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash a few months back and should be even closer to 100 percent. Interesting note on Brown, he said he’s not really used to having a playbook, but he’s been studying Florida’s nonstop. In high school, he says he kind of directed himself in the offense.

What have you done since signing with your Letter of Intent?
I’ve just been training and trying to get stronger with my workouts. It’s going pretty good. I gained about 12 pounds and got stronger and faster, and my hamstring is holding up pretty good.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve wanted to work on before you get on campus?
The only thing is I want to work on my pass protection. You have to protect the quarterback because the quarterback is the nucleus of the offense. You have to protect him so the offense can go.

What weight did you or Florida’s coaches want you to be at before you report and what weight are you currently at?
I’m 198. I was at 202 pounds and they want me at 205 before the season. I gain weight real fast.

When will you report to campus?
I get on campus June 22.

Do you know who your roommate might be?
I think Michael Taylor and Dominique Easley. I’ve never stayed in a room with somebody, so I have to get used to it.

What do you think the biggest challenge will be once you get to Florida?
Just getting by without your parents and stuff like that. Football is football. I don’t really worry about that. I’m just coming in to try and make the offense succeed a little more and do whatever I can to help us win next season.

  1. Met the browns on their way down to fla-tenn game last year. I was on my way fishing and had stopped at a fastfood place. I was very impressed by Macks politness and demeanor in our brief conservation. I have taught school and coached 100s of young men and women over the years .. it is easy to spot a winner when you meet one… Mack Brown is a winner.. not matter what he accomplishes on the field he will be a credit to the University of Florida

  2. All good, solid, team-oriented answers. I like it. Get there June 22nd, get yourself settled and organized, and bring your “A-effort” to practice Mack. I’m looking forward to watching you when your time comes, be it now or later. Welcome to Gator Nation young man.
