UF coaches hitting the road, Part II

Florida’s coaches will live and die by the Southeastern sword when it comes to recruiting areas, but they sure aren’t afraid of hoping on a few planes and venturing out. With the evaluation period in full swing, coaches are trying to spread the word as far as they can before getting back to their own team.

Coaches can go to high schools and talk to coaches and teachers, but can only “bump” into prospects and say hello and goodbye to them.

Here’s a list of some of the out-of-state prospects Florida coaches have checked out this month (commitments in bold):

RB: Savon Huggins (Jersey City, N.J., St. Peter’s Prep), Quan Bray (Hogansville, Ga., Callaway)
WR: Charone Peake (Roebuck, S.C., Dorman)
TE: Jay Rome (Valdosta, Ga.)
OL: Tommy Jordan (Ridgefied, Conn.), Trip Thurman (Dover, Del.), Cyrus Kouandjio (Hyattsville, Md., DeMatha)
DE: Jeoffrey Pagan Florida (Asheville, N.C.), Sterling Bailey Georgia (Gainesville, Ga., East Hall), Ray Drew (Thomasville, Ga., Thomas County Central)
LB: Stephone Anthony (Wadesboro, N.C., Anson), A.J. Johnson (Gainesville, Ga.), Curtis Grant (Richmond, Va., Hermitage)
DB: Malcolm Mitchell (Valdosta, Ga.), Avery Walls (McDonough, Ga., Union Grove), Sheldon Royster (Jersey City, N.J., St. Peter’s Prep)
ATH: Damiere Byrd (Sicklerville, N.J., Timber Creek), Damian Swann (Atlanta Grady)

  1. Agreed DAVE, I’m sure the staff is using that as a reason to come to UF if you’re a LB. A chance to play early is a big decision maker these days, and kids follow the depth charts of teams to see if there are possible openings. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if we sign three or four with a couple being in the top 10 rankings.

  2. Disappointed to see Beal leave, I think he can play. Was hoping he could stick and it would help us develop in-roads with Pennsylvania HS football. Wonder if its playing time, homesickness, or he just doesn’t fit in??

  3. A scholarship offered by the University of Florida to get a great education and …to be a Gator…is the absolute best that a young athlete can ask for at this juncture in life…IF Mr Beal or any others dont want to buy into our National Championship Program for any reason, we would rather find out now…rather than 3rd down and 3 on the Goal Line in a crucial game situation!!!!!!.
What can a kid ask for more than that?
Good luck and ….Makes room for another great Gator that WANTS to be a gator!!!!

  4. Linebackers, Linebackers, Linebackers and Stephone Anthony, A.J. Johnson, and Curtis Grant are three total studs. I’m hearing more about Grant and Anthony but I’m sure Johnson is a stud as well. Two of these three would be an amazing pull in a year in which we really need LB’s.
