and while that means it’s a slow time for college football, June is one of the
hottest months for recruiting.
There might not be a lot of
public commitments, but this is the time of year when prospects and coaches
really start to get acquainted with each other. It’s the time for summer camps.
Hundreds of athletes of all ages will be traveling all across the country to
learn from some of the best coaches in the game and to try and impress enough
to maybe squeeze a scholarship out of someone.
it was Fleming Island offensive lineman Ian Silberman who impressed when he arrived
at Florida’s Elite Linemen Camp during the early part of June and wowed coaches
with his size and ability. He was later offered and committed to the Gators at
Friday Night Lights in July.
Venice quarterback Trey Burton was one of the
lesser-known athletes on campus last June, but found himself working
extensively with former offensive coordinator Dan Mullen each day at Florida’s
Elite Quarterback Camp last summer. Guess what? He’s a part of Florida’s 2010
class as well.
Some 2009 Gator
commits who showed up in June include wide receiver Andre Debose, defensive
end Kedric Johnson, offensive lineman Kyle Koehne, defensive tackle Gary Brown and
tight end Desmond Parks.
