Welcome to the debut of Recruiting Central on
Gatorsports.com. My name is Edward Aschoff and I’ll be coming to you each week
with a blog to keep you up to date with everything recruiting as it pertains to
the Gators and around the Southeastern Conference. Along with my weekly blog,
I’ll also have a recruiting story or two throughout the week about some of the
top prospects on UF’s radar.

I’ll also
be around the message boards from time to time to talk some general recruiting.
We’ll do some live chats, videos and other interactive media. The Sun’s high
school sports editor, John Patton, will chip in with his list of the Top 50
High School Football Players in the state of Florida.

Recruiting is obviously a year-round passion, so stay tuned
to http://Gatorsports.com/recruiting. It’ll be fun.

To start
things off, here are some of the prospects (by position) that UF is high on and
what their plans are right now.

Committed: Jordan
Reed (New London, Conn.,
New London)

Observations: Locking up Jordan Reed should put an
end to filling the quarterback spot.

Running Back

Committed: Mike Gillislee (Deland, Fla.,

Other Targets: Jaamal Berry (Miami, Miami Palmetto), Christine
Michael (Beaumont, Texas, West Brook), Rodney Scott (Cross City, Fla., Dixie
County), Trent Richardson (Pensacola, Fla., Escambia)

Observations: With Mike Gillislee already on board and
the present talent in the UF backfield, the Gators might just look to get one
more back in this class. Right now the two guys at the top of the list are Jaamal
Berry and Trent Richardson (committed to Alabama). Richardson was
a beast at Friday Night Lights in July and while he’s committed to the Tide, he
said he is soft verbal and is still looking at other schools. UF is definitely
one of them. – As for Berry, he has said
numerous times that UF and Ohio
State lead for his
services. Ohio State seems to be the favorite, but the Gators are definitely in
the running. – Scott, who is a soft verbal to Auburn, gained a lot of interest from the UF
coaches after a solid performance at FNL. He has liked UF for a while and there
is a chance he could switch before the season is over. – The Gators are also
high on Christine Michael who is still uncommitted and has an offer from UF,
but looks to be leaning toward LSU and Texas A&M.

Wide Receiver

Committed: Nu’Keese Richardson (Pahokee, Fla.,

Other Targets: Jheranie Boyd (Gastonia, N.C., Ashbrook),
Marlon Brown (Memphis, Tenn., Harding Academy, Randall Carroll (Los Angeles,
Cathedral), Andre Debose (Sanford, Fla., Seminole)

Observations: With Louis Murphy leaving after this season
and the possibility of Percy Harvin declaring early for the NFL Draft, UF is
going to be looking to nab one or two receivers in addition to Nu’Keese
Richardson. Andre Debose could be considered the No. 1 prospect on the entire
board. He has said UF is one of his top schools and he plans to take an
official visit at some point this fall. Debose also lists LSU and Miami as his
top schools and is expected to visit them as well this fall. – Jheranie Boyd
was one of the most impressive looking prospects at FNL, and at the time he
said UF was his top school. Now he’s looking to see other schools and decide
later in the fall. He also lists interest in Clemson, Florida State, Auburn,
North Carolina, N.C. State among others. – Marlon Brown is high on UF’s list,
and UF made it into his top six. He’s planning on making an official visit to Gainesville this fall. – Randall
Carroll is a long shot. Although he is committed to Southern
Cal, he is supposed to take an official visit to UF this fall.

Tight End

Committed: Desmond Parks (Greer S.C., Greer HS)

Other Targets: Orson Charles (Tampa, Plant)

Observations: With Desmond Parks already on board, UF
could be set at the position. Orson Charles showed at one of UF’s camps over
the summer and it appears UF might have a chance for the stud, but after
visiting Miami
last week, Charles named the Hurricanes his leader.

Offensive Line

Committed: Nick Alajajian (Naples,
Fla., Naples),
Jon Halapio (St. Petersburg, Fla.,
Catholic), Jonotthan Harrison (Groveland, Fla., South Lake)

Other Targets: Morgan Moses (Richmond, Va.,
Meadowbrook), Xavior Nixon (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt), Peter White
(Washington, St. John’s College High)

Observations: With three guys on board, the o-line is
well-stocked, but there are still some big names out there that have interest
in UF. Morgan Moses is an absolute beast and probably the best of the bunch. He
was on UF’s campus earlier this summer but is pretty much wide open at this
point. – Xavior Nixon and his family have visited already, but he’s remained
pretty open with schools. This could come down UF, LSU and Notre Dame in the
end. – Peter White just manhandles opposing linemen on his film and he could be
one to watch this year. Besides UF, White is also interested in Maryland,
Miami, Oregon and Tennessee.

Defensive Line

Committed: Gary Brown (Quincy,
Fla., West Gadsden)

Other Targets: Tackles: Isaac Holmes (Hoboken, N.J.,
Hoboken), Antwan Lowery (Miami , Columbus) Ends: Dyron Dye (Sanford, Fla.,
Seminole), Ryne Giddins (Seffner, Fla., Armwood), Anthony Lalota (Princeton, N.J.,
Hun School)

Observations: Antwan Lowery plans to visit UF this
fall and currently has UF in his top three along with Miami
and Rutgers. – Isaac Holmes has said that Maryland and Rutgers are
at the top of his list, but there is still some interest in the Gators. – At
the end position, Dyron Dye has been very quiet about the schools he’s really
interested in, but it’s safe to say UF is on his list. This should come down to
LSU, Miami and UF. – Ryne Giddins was seen walking and talking with defensive
coordinator Charlie Strong after last Saturday’s practice, and with the success
the Gators have had the last couple years at getting Armwood kids (Torrey
Davis, Matt Patchan), you’d think they have a shot at one of the top defensive
ends in the country. Giddins is also interested in Auburn, Clemson, Florida
State, North Carolina, South Florida and USC. – Anthony Lalota just cut his
list to eight schools and UF is in it.

Targets: Jon Bostic (Wellington,
Fla., Palm Beach
Central), Jelani Jenkins (Wheaton, Md., Our Lady of Good Counsel), Jarvis Jones (Columbus, Ga., Carver),
Frankie Telfort (Miami,
Gulliver Prep)

Observations: Jon Bostic was the best linebacker at
FNL, and after playing both corner and safety he has the wheels the catch
pretty much anyone when he drops into coverage. After FNL, UF was one of his
top schools, but he has yet to name a leader. He’s planning a trip to the UF-LSU
game and LSU-Georgia. – Jelani Jenkins is the top linebacker in the country and
has mentioned the Gators a few times, saying he’d like to visit at some point.
– UF figures to be in good shape at the moment with Frankie Telfort, who has
been high on the Gators for a while. With Telfort’s size (5-foot-11, 195
pounds) there’s a chance he could get moved to safety. This should come down to
UF and Tennessee. – Jarvis Jones has
been pretty quiet thus far, but all indications are that he is pretty high on

Targets: Ray Ray Armstrong (Sanford, Fla.,

Observations: With great depth here, safety is a bit
of a mystery at the moment. Ray Ray Armstrong is listed as an athlete, but
he’ll likely play safety at the next level. Along with the rest of the Seminole
prospects, he’s been to UF a few times but is also taking recruiting slow right
now. He expects to make a decision after his football season. – Look for Vero
Beach, Fla., linebacker Zeke Motta to make some noise this fall. He doesn’t
have a UF offer, but he looked very impressive at safety at one of UF’s camps
over the summer.

Greg Reid (Valdosta,
Ga., Lowndes)

Other Targets: Michael Carter (Pompano Beach, Fla.,
Ely), Travis Hawkins (Gaithersburg, Md., Quince Orchard), Dre Kirkpatrick (Gadsden,
Ala., Gadsden City)

Observations: The steal of the class would be Dre Kirkpatrick
who is the No. 1-rated corner by Rivals.com. He camped at FNL, but it will be
hard to get him out of the state of Alabama.
But perhaps UF has turned a corner in the state after getting William Green to
leave Alabama
last season when most thought he was a Crimson Tide lock. – Michael Carter has
UF in his final four with Miami, Minnesota and West
Virginia. – Travis Hawkins is another one of those
wildcards, though it might be hard to lure him away from Maryland.
