After a brief dry spell following the suspension of in-person recruiting, Florida’s 2021 class has picked up its second commitment in as many weeks.
Charles Montgomery, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound four-star athlete out of Seffner Armwood, committed to the Gators over Maryland. UF coach Dan Mullen later confirmed Montgomery’s announcement.
“This decision is it, I’ll be committing to the University of Florida,” Montgomery said on social media.
Ranked the No. 11 athlete in the 2021 class in the 247Sports composite, Montgomery took unofficial visits in the spring to both Florida and Maryland, resulting in the two programs becoming the teams to beat for his commitment. Greg Knox and Billy Gonzales served as the leads in Montgomery’s recruitment to Florida.
Last season Montgomery accounted for 31 carries for 301 yards and six touchdowns as a running back and at receiver he added 41 catches for 720 yards and eight touchdowns. He also produced 381 yards as a kickoff and punt returner, including a 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Montgomery’s commitment gives the Gators 16 in the 2021 class.
