Former Gators OL Issiah Walker says he will transfer to Miami

Florida freshman offensive lineman Issiah Walker has entered the NCAA transfer portal, just four months after joining the Gators as an early enrollee, the Gainesville Sun has confirmed.

The former four-star prospect was expected to compete for playing time in a UF offensive line group lacking significant depth. Walker initially committed to South Carolina before flipping his commitment to Florida and coach John Hevesy late in the process.

Instead, Walker tweeted out Saturday he will transfer to the University of Miami. “I’m staying home,” he wrote on his account.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder out of Miami Norland was on campus for just over two months before the coronavirus pandemic brought UF’s spring preparation to a halt.

Walker’s expected departure leaves the Gators with four-star tackle Josh Braun, in addition to three-star guard Richie Leonard and three-star tackle Gerald Mincey as freshman offensive linemen who joined the Gators in the 2020 class.

Florida is expected to return four starters along the offensive line from last season’s team after just redshirt senior center Nick Buchanan graduated.
