Florida’s 2021 class, which is ranked No. 3 nationally by 247Sports, picked up a commitment late Wednesday from one of the top prospects out of South Carolina.
Justus Boone, a 6-foot-5, 250-pound strong-side defensive end out of Sumter (SC), committed to the Gators over recent offers from Penn State and Tennessee.

Boone, ranked by 247Sports as the class’ No. 1 prospect from the state of South Carolina, took an unofficial visit to Gainesville last season, giving Florida an extended opportunity to land his verbal commitment.
Prior to becoming the 12th member of UF’s 2021 class, Boone received a bit of a surprise Wednesday when former Gators standout and current Cincinnati Bengal defensive end Carlos Dunlap tweeted in his favor.
“It was exciting,” Boone told 247Sports’ Blake Alderman of the interaction with Dunlap. “It was out of the blue. I didn’t think about it. Coach Coop and I were just talking about how he came to Florida from South Carolina and it was exciting. He showed his butt off and he did what he needed to do to get to the next level. He can provide for himself now and the rest of his family because Florida got him right.”
