Florida’s rebuild of the offensive line continued Friday with the commitment of one of the top tackles in the 2020 class.

Joshua Braun, a 6-foot-6, 335-pound offensive tackle out of Live Oak, verbally committed to the Gators and coordinator John Hevesy late Thursday.

Zach Abolverdi of the Lake City Reporter was the first to report Braun’s commitment to UF.

Braun de-committed from Georgia on Wednesday in the wake of Sam Pittman accepting the Arkansas head coach gig, and by 48 hours later the in-state lineman had committed to Florida.

Braun, a National Merit Scholar semifinalist, graduated from high school Thursday and is expected to sign Wednesday with the Gators prior to enrolling in spring.

With the addition of Braun, the Gators hold commitments from 23 prospects heading into the early signing period.

  1. Watching Coach Mullen and staff resurrect Gator Football is an incredible experience. Happy for those players who believe, and are being rewarded for their hard work and dedication to this great school. Go Gators!

    • Think what could’ve been if foley wouldn’t have gotten his hands involved imploding our elite program. Now just need to get rid of his basketball hire in coach white and go get a real coach there too then we’ll be fully back . Love the new stand alone football complex should’ve been built a decade ago

  2. NICE!!! Glad the young man changed his mind. It’s heart-warming to see a top recruit staying in state and choosing UF as his best pick for a sterling educational opportunity and athletic experience. I expect this is just the beginning of a trend and other programs are taking note.

  3. Funny, I was looking at him yesterday thinking we need this kid. If he does enroll early, he will see PT next season. From what I recall, there is one more 4* OT in the state that is uncommitted. It would be fantastic to get him as well.

  4. Another piece of the Gators’ 2020 recruiting puzzle has nicely fallen into place. Braun anchors another solid OL recruiting haul for CDM. He’s the 5th OL commit in this class. So, the Gators now have recruited a complete OL in this class, with potentially one more to come. Nice work CDM!!!

  5. I’m happy for the Gators and CDM, but just to stir the pot, let’s be honest: this is a case of the first loser (second place, as defined by the late Dale Earnhardt) becoming the winner when the first place finisher is disqualified. In this case, the reason for the DQ is Pittman leaving UGA for Arkansas. The effect for UF is the same, but it’s brought about by default.

It’s sort of the same situation as many Gator fans pooh-poohing Mac’s two East titles, because the East was weak. In their minds, the Gators won those titles by default. However, the effect was the same for UF: they were the ones, instead of Georgia, who got invited to be the sacrificial lamb for the 2015 national champion and the 2016 runner-up.
