Florida redshirt junior quarterback:

Q: How do your responsibilities change now that you’re the starter?

A: There are definitely other things to do, like this (standing at the podium in front of the media). You’ve got to keep it all in perspective. You can’t get outside of your element. My focus is 100% on Tennessee right now, so I’ll do my best to stay focused on that.

Q: Will you be leaning on Feleipe Franks this week?

A: Yeah, me and him have spoken a lot — a lot — in the past few days. He’s been really supportive. I’m sure he’s going to be there with everybody in the quarterback room and the whole preparation process. He’s been really supportive. It’s good to have a good friend like that around.

Q: Your teammates say you are decisive on where to go with the football. Where does that come from?

A: I think it comes from the confidence you get from reps. Coach (Dan) Mullen’s thing is he wants to get everybody as many reps as he possibly can. You just saw this past weekend, you never know when your number is going to get called. That’s one thing that I can definitely say about the staff is that they know how to prepare our team for any moment.

Q: How’d you develop into such a pure passer?

A: It’s something I really take pride in — my accuracy. You can never be too accurate, you can always be more accurate. Also, it just piggybacks off of Coach Mullen’s theory of getting everybody as many reps as possible and being prepared for any moment.

Q: Did you have anyone telling you to transfer after last season?

A: Not that I know of. Nobody really told me. Everyone was really supportive of my decision. I’m happy I stayed at Florida. I wouldn’t want things any other way in terms of I didn’t want to transfer. I’m very happy to be at a school like Florida where academics are so great and there are great people to be around. I couldn’t be more happy with the way things turned out. Obviously not for Feleipe. That is a terrible situation. It’s very emotional and I wish him the best. He’s very supportive of me. We’re here to win games. I just need to be the next man up and do what I have to do.
