UF to honor memorable teams

Florida is going to honor its 2008 national championship team during the Oct. 6 game against LSU in The Swamp.

More than 100 members of that team are being invited back to Florida to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the school’s third national title, which the Gators captured with a 24-14 victory over Oklahoma in the BCS Championship Game in Miami. Current head coach Dan Mullen was the offensive coordinator then under Urban Meyer.

That was a star-studded team that included Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, Brandon Spikes, Major Wright, Ahmad Black and many others.

A limited number of ticket packages for the game will include 2008 reunion T-shirts.

More than 100 members of UF’s 1993 SEC championship team will be invited back to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 8 when the school celebrates the 25-year anniversary of the Gators’ Southeastern Conference title.

That team was nothing short of spectacular throughout the course of the 1993 season. While the Gators played one of the toughest schedules in the nation, the 1993 campaign was also one of their most successful ones ever. The team’s 11-2 overall record was capped by a 28-13 win over Alabama in the SEC Championship Game and their first-ever Sugar Bowl victory over Big East Champion West Virginia, 41-7.

Fans may call the Gator Ticket Office at (352) 375-4683 or visit the Ticket Office on the west side of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. And fans can go online at FloridaGators.com.

    • Neither does the 1988 team so if that’s what we are talking about…lets name the 2017 team too. Hell the 95 & 96 teams were better than 93.

Off the head.. NFL guys on 2008…and I know there are more….all didn’t even start,
Tebow, Harving, Pouncey Twin, Trautwein, Marcus Gilbert, Murphy, Hernandez, Cooper Deonte Thompson, David Nelson, Rainey & Demps, Caleb Sturgus

Dunlap, Trattou, Cunningham, Joe Haden, Jenkins, Major Wright, Black, Wil Hill, Brandon Spikes

  1. I think guys are choosing their favorite team vs best team. My favorite team was hands down the 1996 Gators, followed by the 1984 team, one hell of a squad, and the best team in the country that year at end of the season, IMO.

    • Yeah, Green was so cool at the point, especially in the title game against UCLA. The Bruins had dominated their opponents with defense, but Green handled it well with 8 assists and only 1 turnover (knew he had a great game handling the ball, but had to look up the stats). Lee Humphrey was my favorite, though, but also not the best. The great thing about the ’06 and ’07 teams was parity in their scoring and their willingness to sacrifice individual stats for the sake of the team.

      • No doubt…they shared the ball and always took the right shot….and had 3 top 10 picks, and 2 second round picks in the top 6 when you add Chris Richard who was no drop off when he spelled Horford and Noah. Heck even the 07 team had Speights as a Freshman…and 1st rounder after the 08 season. Goes to show that sharing the ball and winning will get you where you need to be. Loved Lee…ice cold and a better ball defender than given credit for. In all the interviews they all talked about how hard it was to not just turn around and head for defense when Humphrey took shots because it was pretty much automatic. In the one and done era, they were something to treasure…and are on the MT Rushmore of great UF teams for sure.
