Senior safety Marcell Harris announced on Twitter on Thursday night that he’s forgoing his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL draft.
Harris missed the 2017 season after rupturing his achilles tendon during summer workouts. Although a fifth-year senior last season, Harris was eligible to appeal to the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility. Instead, he has declared for the draft.
He finished his junior season with 73 tackles and two interceptions.
Kicker Eddy Pineiro, defensive tackle Taven Bryan and receiver Antonio Callaway are the UF underclassmen who have declared for the draft.
I hope he gets drafted. I was kinda hoping he would come back, stud it up, and go high in the draft. But it’s understandable because you are risking another injury.
Marcell was getting better & better & better before his injury. All the best to Marcell & hope he gets a good opportunity in the NFL. We certainly missed him on the field. Go Gators!
I do not think he will be a high draft choice but once he gets there he will turn some heads. I think he will be a good pro safety
Understandable that hes concerned after that injury, but he really needs to get another year of development in imo.
But I wish him all the best in his pursuit of the next level.
Let us see if he makes it to the combine. If not, he will more than likely be signed as a free agent after the draft. I hope he goes to the Dolphins and they get the steal of the draft. GO GATORS!
Harris is late round pick or free agent at best cause he’s not on anyone’s drafrt board right now. Maybe a monster Pro Day could change that. Pinero’s decision is strange. You seldom see kickers leave early because they are never high draft choices–if drafted at all. Drafting a kicker has come under a black cloud after the Bucs drafted Aquayo in the 2nd round–then released him after one year because he couldn’t kick. Pinero might get picked in a late round, but most kickers go thru a free agent signing. NFL teams are leery after Aguayo. Not saying Pinero can’t kick in the NFL, just wish he would have stuck around another year. He’s taking a big chance and kickers don’t get those $3 million contracts with guaranteed signing bonus. You got to produce and right away, or else your get your a_ _ kicked right out the door. Right Aguayo? Oh yeah, he was on FSU with Winston and the Bucs thought he was the next Morten Andersen. Turns out, he was the next one out the door. LOL
Not sure how Peniero staying an extra year would improve his draft stock. He’s going to get paid either way, now he’s just going to earn a paycheck a year earlier. He’s not going to earn anymore money by waiting another year.
I think the story is that he needs to help his family, like right now or yesterday, Scott. Don’t know the details, don’t really need to, but it does sound like a good decision for him if those are the circumstances. Thankfully, DM has a good one coming in.
