Gators in the NFL: Falcons sign Ivie, Thompson to Bills

Joey Ivie was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft but did not earn a roster spot with the ‘boys. This week, the Atlanta Falcons signed Ivie to their practice squad, where he will join former Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and former-gators Keanu Neal and Brian Poole. In Ivie’s final season at Florida, he started 10 of 11 games and recorded 26 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Around the league, safety Keanu Neal had eight total tackles in the Falcons’ home loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, while teammate Brian Poole had two tackles and a pass deflection. Miami center Mike Pouncey is currently in concussion protocol after getting concussed against the Falcons.

Cornerback Quinton Dunbar had eight total tackles and two pass deflections for the Washington Redskins in their 26-24 win over the 49ers Sunday. Tight end Jordan Reed hauled in four passes for 37 yards in the Redskins’ win, with a long of 14 yards.

Tackle Marcus Gilbert re-injured a hamstring Sunday in Pittsburgh’s 19-13 win over the Chiefs. Gilbert missed the Steelers’ previous three games with the same injury. Cornerback Joe Haden had three tackles and a pass deflection for Pittsburgh.

CB Vernon Hargreaves compiled six tackles for Tampa Bay in their loss to the Arizona Cardinals, making it three straight games for Hargreaves with at least six tackles.

Safety Marcus Maye had six total tackles in the Jets’ 24-17 loss against the Patriots, while in the same game, running back Mike Gillislee rushed 10 times for 44 yards but lost a fumble for New England.

Linebacker Jarrad Davis had eight tackles in the Lions’ 52-38 loss against the Saints.

Linebacker Antonio Morrison had seven total tackles in the Colts’ 36-22 loss against the Titans on Monday Night Football.

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap tallied two tackles and forced a fumble in Cincinnati’s week 5 game against the Bills.

On Tuesday, wide receiver Deonte Thompson was picked up by Buffalo.

Thompson has five-plus seasons of NFL experience and had 11 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown with Chicago before being released by the Bears last week. Thompson played his first two seasons with Baltimore and then had no catches in playing one game for Buffalo in 2014.

Overall, he has 50 catches for 602 yards and three touchdowns in 42 games.
