Tight end Jordan Reed has left Washington Redskins training camp to see a specialist about his toe injury.
Coach Jay Gruden says Reed, who was drafted in 2013 out of Florida, traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, to see Dr. Robert Anderson on Tuesday. It was a planned visit.
Reed has been on the physically unable to perform list with a big toe injury since the start of camp. Gruden said there’s no timetable for Reed to join practice and considers him day to day.
The 27-year-old has been on the field during afternoon workouts, playing catch or practicing his footwork. Gruden said the team is not going to rush Reed’s recovery.
Reed had 66 catches for 686 yards and six touchdowns last season. He’s going into the second season of his $46.75 million, five-year contract.
In transactions involving former UF standouts the past week, the Colts signed receiver Valdez Showers on Wednesday, the Redskins released safety Josh Evans and the Steelers signed tight end Jake McGee.
Evans played in 47 games with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2013-15), making 36 total starts after being drafted in the sixth round in 2013. The Redskins had him on the 53-man roster for two games during the 2016 season, but he never saw the field.
McGee practiced with the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers after his career ended at UF in 2016.
Showers was a cut by the Redskins last summer.
