UF to start No. 16 in coaches’ poll

Gators ranked to start the season
The Gators are ranked No. 16 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll put out by USA Today.

Florida will open the 2017 college football season ranked No. 16 in the Amway Coaches Poll that was released Thursday by USA Today.
The Gators were No. 13 in last year’s final coaches poll after beating Iowa 30-3 in the Outback Bowl to finish 9-4.
Alabama starts out as the nation’s overwhelming No. 1, capturing 49 first-place votes in the poll. Ohio State is second and Florida State third.
There are six SEC teams in the top 25 — Alabama (1), LSU (12), Auburn (13), Georgia (15), Florida (16) and Tennessee (24).
Two other state schools also are in the top 25. Miami is at No.18, while South Florida is ranked No. 21 heading into Charlie Strong’s first season.
The Gators open the season against No. 9 Michigan, which finished last season 10-3 and ranked No. 10 by the coaches, on Sept. 2 in Arlington, Texas.
The Associated Press sportswriters preseason Top 25 is scheduled for release Aug. 21.
