Florida landed a verbal commitment Sunday from a four-star wide receiver out of Metairie, Louisiana.
Ja’Marr Chase, the No. 21-ranked wide receiver in the 2018 class by 247Sports composite, verbally committed to the Gators and coach Jim McElwain over offers from LSU and TCU.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder spent the weekend in Gainesville for Friday Night Lights, Florida’s annual recruiting showcase, and at the time said he didn’t have a timeline for his commitment. The visit to UF’s campus was seemingly enough to sway Chase to verbally commit.
“I don’t have a leader or a top-five schools, nothing like that,” Chase said. “I’m just seeing how everything plays out right now.”
With Chase’s verbal commitment, which is non-binding until he signs a letter of intent, the Gators have 13 commits in the 2018 class.
