Coach: Bret Bielema, fifth season (93-50 overall, 25-26 at Arkansas).
Last year: 7-6 overall, 3-5 in the SEC (5th in the West). Lost to Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl.
Best case scenario: The Razorbacks should be potent again on offense, led by quarterback Austin Allen and four returning starters on the line. How far this team can go likely will depend on a defense that ranked last in the nation in yards allowed per play last season. If the Hogs are much improved on that side of the ball, this team could be a threat in the West.
Worst case scenario: With a 10-22 SEC record, Bielema is already under a lot of pressure to make the Razorbacks a competitive contender in the division. If Arkansas gets off to a slow start and it’s evident that the defense is still an issue, it could be an ugly fall in Fayetteville.
Quotable: “He’s got a big chip on his shoulder. He didn’t have five stars coming in or four stars. Austin has done some really good things. There are some things he can do better. I wouldn’t do anything, but truly sit back and watch a guy that I think is going to be able to go to some heights people thought he’d never be able to go. At the end, he’ll probably be the one smiling.” Bielema on quarterback Austin Allen
