Florida coach Mike White isn’t just getting familiar with UF’s highly regarded 2019 signing class — he’s also continuing to assess the future of the Florida program.

And White and the Gators seemingly found the first piece over the weekend.

Osayi Osifo, a 6-foot-8 power forward out of Eastern Florida Junior College, committed to the Gators late Sunday night, giving Florida its first commitment in the 2020 class.

Osifo’s commitment comes just 10 days after the Gators offered him a scholarship; while raw offensively, Osifo displayed a knack for chasing rebounds. While he didn’t play a significant role last season, Osifo averaged nearly a rebound per minute played as a reserve, and he will give the Gators a prospect in the frontcourt following Kerry Blackshear’s departure after the season.

The Florida men’s basketball team commenced practice Friday.

  1. Welcome aboard, Osayi – you played for what used to be Brevard Community College. I grew up in Hogtown (Gainesville) and graduated from UF in 1985 (my father graduated from UF in 1958). I have lived in Brevard County for over 30 years – proud to read about how you are now a Gator – we need more “bigs” – we are loaded with guards, but have few bigs, so you will be a very important addition to our team – want to see you rebounding, laying it up or dunking it, blocking shots and stealing a few passes – GO GATORS!!!
