In the aftermath of his team’s NCAA Round of 32 finish, Florida men’s basketball coach Mike White has spent the recent weeks in search of a transfer forward.
And after much speculation regarding just how White would use Florida’s open scholarships, it seems at least one arrival will spend the upcoming season developing in Gainesville rather than contributing on the floor.
Anthony Duruji, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward out of Louisiana Tech, said on social media Monday he will transfer to Florida and sit out the 2019-2020 season.
After making the Conference-USA All-Freshman team, Duruji started every game last season for the Bulldogs, averaging 12.2 points per game, including a 22-point performance against LSU on Nov. 16. He visited Florida over the weekend, and by Monday morning Duruji had opted to continue his career under White, who coached four seasons at Louisiana Tech before arriving at UF.
Duruji will have two years of collegiate eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2019-2020 season.
