Florida basketball signees Tre Mann and Scottie Lewis were named McDonald’s All-Americans on Thursday.
They are the first two McDonald’s All-Americans signed by UF coach Mike White. The last McDAAs signed by the Gators were Kasey Hill and Chris Walker in 2013. It’s now 20 McDonald’s All-Americans in UF men’s basketball history and marks the sixth time multiple future Gators have been selected for the game.
Mann, a Gainesville native, plays at The Villages High, while Lewis is from Colts Neck, N.J.
The Gators also have four-star 6-foot-9 forward Omar Payne (Kissimmee) in their top-10 2019 signing class.

Let’s hope these 2 have much more success in college than the last 2. I think we will see how much better Coach White is next year with more talented players.
I like that we have two straight SEC wins despite lacking the big man. However, we can only go so far without the big man. Coach White is doing a great job with recruiting – the future of Gator basketball looks bright! GO GATORS!!!
never forget who those two wins came against, both bottom feeders, A&M with a losing record and UGA not much better, the schedule is about to get a lot tougher for the Gators, I don’t see this team even getting an NIT invitation once the dust settles on the regular season, very possible Gators will enter the SEC tournament with a losing record
We have to get some big men. Only one big guy coming in next year and Hayes is leaving. We won’t be able to compete consistently against the better teams without them. Have to go the Juco route or a transfer like with Justin Leon and you see Coach Mullen doing it in football to fill our needs.
doesn’t take much to be named a McDonald’s All American, if Kasey Hill and Chris Walker were one, who isn’t
Though it was meant as a joke above by Kevin, ”Gak being 25” is funny. The truth about Gak (for me) is I’ve never (either in person or on T.V.) seen Gak run the court and NOT look like he was in serious pain. So I hope the ”redshirt” gets him healthy, finally. And maybe between his rehab and Stone’s, the 2 of them can come back next season strong as… full grown BULL GATORS! And Patric Young and Bradley Beal were the last 2 ”Mickey D ALL-AMERICANS to actually play like ALL-AMERICANS at Florida. In my opinion, Kasey Hill & Chris Walker were both somewhat ”a bust.” Go Gators!
Interesting list with a mixed bag of Gator careers. Donnel Harvey played one year, and then went pro for a cup of coffee. James White played only 2 seasons (I think) and then transfered. Nick Calathes also played for 2 years I think and then went overseas to play pro ball. Jai Lucas stayed 1 year and then transferred. Chris Walker was perhaps the biggest bust of all as a result of grades, injury and Lord knows what else and left early. While Kasey Hill was among those who played a full 4 years, he was never the great point guard he was cracked up to be. David Lee, Mike Miller, Corey Brewer and Brad Beal are really the only ones who have had or are having successful NBA careers. Thanks for posting this list as many of us have probably forgotten about some of these guys.
Agree about Walker, Dan. I think part of his problem was that in high school, he was a man among boys at 1A Holmes County High. He just wasn’t accustomed to the level of competition and the effort necessary to succeed at the major college level. Hill’s biggest problem, imo, was his terrible shooting. I’m pretty sure he’s top 5 (or near it) at UF in assists and steals. I think Calathes is underappreciated. He averaged over 15 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds in his career. His two seasons are #1 & #2 at UF for assists in a season.
Joe, you are on the mark about Hill’s shooting. Not only was a poor outside shooter, he struggled mightily when he got to the hoop. His defense and passing were what made him a decent point guard, though many would argue that he should have played behind Cheeze and not started in front of him. Calathes was productive in his 2 year career at UF but he was not a very good outside shooter either. Nebhard kind of reminds me of him; both with good size and passing skills but less than stellar shooters, though Calathes was a better finisher around the rim.
Sad that Eugene and Dwayne are no longer with us. Great Gators. RIP.
Hmm, not to speak ill of the dead but I have different memories of Schintzius. A bit of a prima donna but the Vandy game in ’89 was interesting. Then there was the “it’s raining” incident. I used to deliver pizzas for Pizza Pronto. Delivered a sub to Schintzius once in Yon Hall. He did not give me a tip.
Burger boys don’t always pan out. It’s great for the kids to get recognized and Florida to get a little recruiting sizzle.
