Florida will be even more thin in the frontcourt when it faces Kentucky on Saturday in its regular-season finale at the O’Connell Center.

Redshirt freshman forward Dontay Bassett was diagnosed with a concussion Thursday and will not play against the Wildcats.

The 6-foot-9, 240-pound Bassett suffered the injury when he was hit in face inadvertently while fighting for a rebound in the first half against Alabama on Tuesday. Bassett sat out the second half.

Bassett had started UF’s last two games at center and had been playing better of late, scoring a career-high 12 points and grabbing six rebounds in UF’s 72-66 win over Auburn last Saturday.

With Bassett out, Florida will be down to a three-player post rotation of junior center Kevarrius Hayes, redshirt sophomore forward Keith Stone and sophomore center Gorjok Gak against the Wildcats.

  1. Kinda’ shows how common concussions are in sports. 10 years ago he would just have been told to shake it off and would have played the second half. I think it is great the trainers are catching these for the long term health of these young men. Sucks to loose him heading into the KU meeting but much more important that Dontay is healthy.

  2. Bassett is an asset. His evolving offensive potential gives Florida hope. The other bigs ; especially Hayes, leaves little hope offensively. The effort by the entire team, must be at an optimal level. Allen and Stone must compliment the other guards. Aggression, aggression , aggression.

    • bf. Be real, Mikey. Post your true, honest feelings and prediction and the Florida vs. UK game. You know, just like your prediction about the Alabama game. We all know how dead on you were with that one. But, then again, here you are still foaming your troll BS.

    • Are you ill, or just trying to bait us with a seemingly reasonable comment? Where’s all the nonsense about Michelle White losing all those games where she was the favorite? Either way, I’ll bite. If you mean winning the SEC Tournament championship, then a 4-seed sounds about right for a 23-11 team. If you’re considering that a possibility, that’s a big change for someone who recently claimed the Gators could only make the dance by winning the SEC Tournament while in the same breath insisting they had no shot at doing so. Sounds like you’re just fishing to see how many of us may have jumped that far back onto the Gator bandwagon.

      • What percentage on here, Joe, would even recognize “bait”? Yeah, I like to throw the line in the water every so often. Reasons why Florida will win Saturday? Anyone could give a number of reasons and most would be just hogwash.

If they play 40 minutes, they will beat Kentucky.
My gut says they’ll play 40 minutes.

  3. I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CONCUSSIONS.
    QUESTION?
IS THERE REAL EVIDENCE THAT HE IS UNABLE TO PLAY BECAUSE OF OBJECTIVE EVIDENCE?
OR IS THIS JUST PERIODICAL SO THAT NO ONE IS LIABLE 20 YEARS FROM NOW?

I HAVE A FEELING THAT , TODAY EVERYBODY IS CONCERNED ABOUT POSSIBILITY THAT MAYBE THERE IS REAL INJURY.

AS A FATHER I DO GET THAT. I REALLY DO.

AT THE SAME TIME IT JUST SEEMS THAT THE PENDULUM MAY HAVE SWUNG THE OTHER WAY NOW.

    GO GATORS!!!

    • bf, what I do know is that you will be on here trolling no matter what happens Saturday. You posted a bunch of nonsense before the Florida vs. Bama game about the Gators and White and you have not accepted any responsibility for your nonsense after being completely wrong about that game and about White as a coach (who coached a brilliant game). But, I am sure you will be on here railing against Florida and insulting White if current underdog Kentucky wins Saturday. And you will not go away from trolling this site if Florida and White do win Saturday. It is who you are. Everyone knows that, sadly for you.

    • I can’t be ignored and you know it! If you don’t like it, don’t read it — but you read it!! Until I came in, Brockway’s “crowd” was a C at best. Almost singlehandedly, I’ve made it a B+. Don’t forget now, the Gators are favored against Kentucky, not underdogs. Favorites, got that?!

      • bf. It is not a “C at best” on here now. With you on here, it is definitely a “bs.” And nothing about “bs” makes anything or anyone better than before, no matter what your “in need of 15 minutes of fame” frail ego tells you or what you post about yourself on here. Man, go get some psychological help.

      • Win or lose tomorrow against KY and the Gators are still in the big dance. That is a fact that you were WRONG about, as usual!! Tell us again what a horrible coach White is. In the tourney his 2nd and 3rd season after inheriting a team with a losing record the prior season. White is getting better and you are getting worse with every prediction you make brain free!

    • Gatorlover. If we ignore bf, he simply will change his ID on here and draw people into his nonsense again under a new name. God, he has had at least 100 IDs on here already. It truly is sad. Mikey truly should work for Russia as an internet troll. Maybe he does already.

  4. I can handle the thin-skinned and narrow-minded — but, it’s a chore at times. The tough ones for me are the ones that can’t take a joke and/or are al-Hussein Obama / Clinton voters. They present a formidable challenge, no doubt. They are secretive too — they won’t say how they voted.

If you think I’m acerbic and annoying now, wait until football starts!
The football team…you guessed it…has a REAL COACH!

Just a thought: Some of you should just comment on the sporting event instead of bf.

  5. CBS Sports and Bleacher Report have the Gators in the Big Dance as a No.9 or 8 seed. They rank 3rd in the country in beating teams in Quad 1. Still, hard to understand a team that has beaten: Cincinnatti, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Auburn, Stanford and Missouri, while losing to Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Loyola of Chicago and Georgia. I stopped scratching my head ’cause I was getting a headache from trying to understand all the offensive and defensive strategies of the Gators.

  6. Since we’re talking college basketball, how about one or several of you twisted liberals tell the rest of us how Sean Miller is still coaching! His voice is on tape talking about the payoff to Ayton and Miller says he’s done “nothing knowingly wrong”! What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope to hear opinions of the astute ones…you know, people like Smith…or TampaGator…Sparky, perhaps…those really good ones.

  7. Just a couple laughable instances of the very flawed NCAA RPI:

    Florida — kenpom ranking 24 / RPI 44
Rhode Island kenpom ranking 47, RPI 15

Doubtful that there are computer rankings more respected than kenpom.

    • I know the Gators are performing great and constantly bursting your bubble when you have to worry about someone calling Kentucky KU, and questioning how many Q1 wins UF has!
      Go Gators!!
Keep putting the shaft to bf 🙂

  8. Two weeks from now, I would think, if Ayton’s parents and Miller haven’t received a retraction (for starters) from ESPN, almost all of us will know why. Has Miller even asked for one?

If Arizona and Michigan St. end up in the title game, one will actually see — and smell — the stench coming from our tv monitors! Tom Dr. Nassar Izzo and Sean Miller aren’t my two favorite college bb coaches.
