Former UF basketball captain Sherwood dies

Former Florida basketball standout forward/center Bobby Sherwood, named as one of the Gainesville Sun’s Top 100 UF basketball players in history, died this week in Gainesville at 80.

Sherwood, a forward/center, played at UF from 1957-60 and was captain of UF’s 1959-60 team. He led the Gators in scoring in the 1958-59 season at 13.6 points per game and led the Gators in rebounding in 1959-60 at 10.5 rebounds per game.

Sherwood graduated from UF in 1961 and went on to a 35-year career with Shell Oil Company, culminating his career as a Vice President.
