Had the game Wednesday night at Stetson not been postponed because of expected inclement weather throughout the afternoon and evening, Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan would have missed it to attend the memorial service for his cousin, Daniel R. Foley, who passed away this past Saturday at the age of 46 after suffering from 9/11-related pancreatic cancer.
FloridaGators.com Senior Writer Scott Carter detailed Foley’s story and connection with O’Sullivan and the Gators baseball program in a story this morning, which can be read at this link.
Assistant coach Craig Bell would have served as the acting head coach. O’Sullivan expects to return Friday for this weekend’s series.
The game at Stetson has been rescheduled for March 18. A time for the game has not yet been announced.
Top-ranked Florida returns to action Friday, when it opens a three-game series against Troy at McKethan Stadium. First pitch Friday night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s game is slated for 4 p.m. Sunday’s game is scheduled for 1 p.m. All three games will stream live via SEC Network + and the ESPN app.
Very moving story about Sully’s cousins. I didn’t realize so many first responders are still suffering and have died later from related diseases due to the tragic event on 9-11-01
Rest in peace.
