Florida guard Scottie Lewis earned his first SEC weekly basketball honor Monday when he was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

The Hazlet, N.J., native becomes the first Gator to garner SEC Freshman of the Week honors since sophomore Andrew Nembhard did so twice last season for his performances against North Florida and Alabama.

In Saturday’s matchup against Alabama, Lewis played his best game of the season to help Florida overcome a 21-point deficit and pull off a historic double-overtime win, 104-98.

Lewis recorded the first double-double of his career, notching a new career-high 10 rebounds to go a long with 15 points. The freshman was also a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe.

Through UF’s first 13 games this season, Lewis is averaging 8.7 points and 4.7 rebounds. He currently leads the team in blocks and steals per game, averaging 1.6 in each category.

The Gators continue their SEC slate Tuesday, as they travel to Columbia, S.C., to face South Carolina at 7 p.m. (ESPNU).
