Sun sports columnist Pat Dooley looks at the first half of the Florida-FSU game:
* OK, one thing we know is that Florida always starts slowly, right? Not on this supercharged night. The first drive was a thing of beauty and the second was aided by an FSU offsides penalty but was an important answer to the FSU score. Freddie Swain’s two scores were a nice way to finish off your last night in The Swamp.
* Muffing a punt, on the other hand, not so good. Florida caught a break though when FSU was called for an illegal formation, something that has happened several times to the ‘Noles this season. The ensuing short kick set the Gators up on the FSU 40 and the Gators needed only four plays to score and make it 27-7.
* The sack UF had late in the first half was the 41st this season for the Gators. It was also the third of the game. Florida continued to put up impressive numbers despite another game without a guy Florida thought might be an All-American this year. Jabari Zunga again did not dress because of an ankle injury that somehow still isn’t allowing him to play. Zuniga did participate in senior night wearing his jersey.
* Evan McPherson had not missed an extra point so it was almost stunning when he missed one, his first after 91 straight makes. But he made up for it with a 50-yard field goal with 10 seconds left in the half. It was the longest of his career.
