Florida senior wide receiver Freddie Swain was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week and junior safety Shawn Davis was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

The nod serves as the first this season for both players, though, the selection marks Florida’s fourth SEC defensive honor in six weeks.

Swain put out a career performance in Saturday’s 24-13 win over Auburn, as the Ocala native tallied a career-high six receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown, marking the highest single-game receiving yardage total by a Gator since Demarcus Robinson in 2014 (15 catches, 216 yards vs. Kentucky). In addition, Swain totaled more receiving yards on his own than Auburn’s entire team (145), finishing with a 24.3-yard receiving average on the day. The Gators also added to their big plays in the passing game, as Swain’s 64-yard touchdown reception on Florida’s opening drive makes for UF’s third 60-plus yard touchdown pass this season.

Swain leads the Gators in receiving yards (280), while also being tied for most receiving touchdowns on the team (3).

Davis’ presence was certainly felt back on the field Saturday, as Davis notched his third interception in three games to go along with a 41-yard return in the win over Auburn. The interception was the first of three for the Gators on the day, recording multiple interceptions now in four consecutive games for the first time since the first four games of the 2010 season. Davis added five tackles in Saturday’s contest, aiding Florida’s defensive effort in holding Auburn to season-lows in points (13), rushing yards (124) and total yards (269). The Gators also only allowed Auburn to convert two of its 14 third downs for the game (14.3%).

Davis leads the Gators defensive unit with three interceptions, while placing second in the SEC for interceptions.

The Gators travel to Death Valley this Saturday for another highly anticipated top-10 matchup with No. 5 LSU, slated for an 8 p.m. kickoff on ESPN.

  1. Congrats, Gators! Well deserved. Two fantastic plays by these guys. Swain showed explosive speed in splitting the Tiger DB’s for the TD, and Davis displayed great instincts and hands making the one-handed interception. Great plays to watch over and over.
